I wake up nice and early the next morning, ready for a day out in the new city, I call home for the next few years. I stumble into the shower, and let the cold water wake my body up for good. I keep thinking backt to the conversation with Rose last night, she made me feel so much better about the choice I've made to move here. I feel much more confident in my new surroundings and I'm ready to show it off to the community. I chuck on a pair of tongs, denim shorts and a floral crop top that complements my natural beach tan. I apply a light amount of make-up today, using mascara and a bit of concealer.
Quietly creeping to my room, past Taylor's trying not to wake her up, I grab my purse and brown handbag as well as my sunnies. Reaching the bottom of the stairs, I see Dad lying on the couch watching television. I give him a quick kiss on the cheek, and heading straight for the pancakes that were on the kitchen becnch. He knows me too well.
"Steph, the maple syrups in the pantry. Topshelf to the right." he lets me know, and I climb to the top, reaching for the maplt delight. I remember when I was a kid, Dad always used to make pancakes in the morning and was never afraid to experiement with food. He once let me try ahot dog with maple syrup.. I know it sounds gross, but it was the best invention ever. But I guess, I love pretty much all types of food, I'm not fussy at all.
Today was going to be a good day. I was planning to head out to campus and hand in my forms for a dorm room, then go shopping to get some accessories. Rose offered to come along and pull out of a few hours of work, but I kindly denied, knowing that it would put her behind all her paperwork that she would have to fill out.
I waltzed into the living room, smileing as the sunshined down through the light curtains. Dad look at me confused yet amused at my clumsiness and being un-co while dancing and eating at the same time.
"Since when are you so happy?" he jokes and pats the empty space next to him, wanting me to sit down. I take the seat and poke my tongue out at him before taking a bite of the warm, fluffy pan cake.
"Blame it on the food." I speak, with a mouth full of food. He laughs and shakes his head.
"You're still the Stephi that obsesses over Daddy's pancakes." I giggle and take another bite.
"They're just to good. They get me everytime." I laugh as he kisses me on the forehead.
"See you tonight gorgeous girl." He shouts as he closes the front door behind him.
I hear a crack on the staircase behind me and turn around to come in full view of Taylor in yet another one of her revealing outfits. Shes in a mini skirt and a bikini top. She definitly isn't as self concious as I am, that's for sure. Even I wouldn't wear that.
"Hey." I surprise my self by saying. Why can't I just shut up and make her be the first to talk. She stands there awkwardly glaring at me.
"Hi." she replies emotionlessly, a few moemnts after. She walks into the kithchen and stis at the corner of the bench. Now was the right time. I needed to talk to her. at least know who my Dad's daughter in law is going to be. It would also be a little more comfortable if I knew who my step-sister ACTUALLY was.
I stroll into the kitchen and sit oppostie to taylor. She stares at me wide eyed, both shocked and annoyed that I'm still here in her house. Seeing that she wasn't going to start talking any time soon, I built up the courage and spoke.
"Look, I know you don't like me for whatever your reasons are, but can we at least get to know a little bit about eachother? I'm not suggesting to be 'best friends' or anything, I just suggest that we get to know who our step-sister is. I just want to get to know you." I say in the nicest way possible, under the circumstances.
