After a few hours of sleep I felt someone shake me. I opened my eyes to see Erza. Over a couple hours we took shifts. One person stayed up on night watch while the other two slept. I sat up, and stretched. My shoulders were sore from sleeping in my armor.

“We didn’t get very far” Brad complained.

“Yeah, the streets were more guarded than I thought they’d be” Erza complained. He leaned back, thumping his head against the wall.

“We should have planned this better” he complained.

“Our first mission is already a total bust” he added. Brad stood up, his blonde hair was a mess, but he had a determined look in his blue eyes.

“Then lets make a plan right now” he decided. We started going over a plan. We could try going out in the open down the street, and try to look as non suspicious as possible. Or we could try moving through the alley between the buildings, but if we’re seen it’ll look suspicious.

“Lets try going down the alley’s, they shouldn’t be guarded” I suggested. I pressed my ear to the broken door. I couldn’t hear anyone nearby. I motioned for them to follow, and we cautiously crept out. I jumped down from the balcony easy while Brad and Erza climbed down the ladder. Between the buildings were a series of narrow back alley roads. If I stretched both arms out I could run both hands along the building walls. There were separate shops in the network of buildings only accessible through these alley roads, too. There weren’t many guards thank goodness.

“So where’s this chapel?” I asked. Erza, nor Bradley replied. I looked around at some of the narrow roads, and saw what they saw. The powerless, the weak, the people of this town under siege, and it was horrible. I then realized that the trash that filled the streets here wasn’t edible. The shops that appeared to have been food markets and cafe’s were completely empty. There wasn’t any food, and if there was people were probably hoarding it. We continued walking, and as I passed by someone they looked up at us. It was a kid wrapped in a curtain. Eyes that would barely open from exhaustion, and lips that couldn’t smile from pain. ‘We have to save this town’ I thought as we passed by more people.

“The chapel should be in the town square” Erza mumbled softly. We continued walking until we reached the road. I carefully looked around. The road circled around a fountain, and multiple roads from the other sides of the village led here, too. There wasn’t anyone around, so we walked out, and towards the chapel. The windows, and doors had been boarded up heavily.

“There’s got to be a way in” Brad said as he observed the chapel front. I cracked my knuckles thoughtfully.

“I wouldn’t if I were you” Erza told me.

“Yeah, and why not?” I asked. She hesitantly placed her hand on the boarded up door. It seemed to waver, and a piece of paper on the door became visible. There was a circle on it with a sun drawn on it in orange.

“Paper bombs” Erza said. Paper bombs were strips of parchment infused with magic by drawing a special transmutation circle on them. If I had hit it, the magic would have detonated. I chuckled nervously,

“Right, I knew that was there” I replied. Erza rolled his eyes,

“I saw we try from the back” he suggested.Erza, Brad, and I walked around to the back of the chapel. We went around the back, but the windows were boarded up as well. I started walking through the bushes when my foot hit something. The ground seemed to crumble away below my feet. I yelped as I suddenly fell.

“Jeremy!” I heard Erza and Brad call to me. I hit the ground on my side. I groaned in pain, and looked up. Bits of dirt, and splinters rained down.
