Within the town the enemy military force was running a rampage through the buildings. The sound of crying babies and children being silenced, and the yells of men whose stores were being looted. I ran into the town when a body was thrown over my head. I ducked down when a blast of dark energy shot out at me. The blast sent me flying backwards. I managed to land on my feet. A group of soldiers in navy blue uniforms with a blue-white outline stood in my path from their hands they shot blasts of dark energy. These soldiers used magic. Magic power itself came from ones own strength. In the human body magic power could be absorbed, and contained. For those who use magic regularly, and train with it the body naturally absorbs it. Using magic was a skill to take pride in for it was power, and power meant everything.
I charged forward barehanded towards them. I darted left and right out of the way of their endless fire. Unlike Brad I didn't reply on weapons like deadly daggers or strong swords.
Dis pence! Tooth and claw!" I exclaimed. My nails became like claws, and my teeth became sharper. I lunged forward, and slammed my fist into one of their faces. He fell to the ground, and scrambled backwards. The others moved at me all at once.
I dodged their feeble attacks easily when I was finally shot down with energy field attacks. Dark blasts of energy from their hands beat at my back until I was on my hands and knees. They took aim again, drawing in on their strength and energy to build up power. I started to struggle to stand up. 'A warrior doesn't stay down!' I reminded myself.
"Fire!" They exclaimed. I shielded myself, and braced for impact.
"Jeremy!" I heard Brad yell. He jumped into the path of their attack with his assassins sword. The tall, muscular boy grunted with effort as he blocked their attack. They stopped firing at last; seeing that the attack had failed. The wide blade was steaming hot from the heavy attack. Brad looked back with eyes of disappointment.
"Come on, you have to be a man, and fight!" He scolded me. I smirked in response,
"Sorry I got a little beat up" I replied. He stood up, his brand new sword poised at the enemy as if he'd been fighting with it for ages. I stood up, and winced in pain. My shoulder was cut, probably from when I hit the ground. I clutched the wound tightly. Boy did it sting, too. 'Typical, I'm always wounded in any fight' I thought. 'How... How pitiful' I scolded myself.
"Lets go!" I ordered. I picked my sorry excuse for a warrior up, and charged forth.
"That's the spirit!" Brad charged. A new, wild strength flooded my muscles. I darted out of the way of the way of their attacks. Brad simply blocked with his sword. He darted by them, and before they could turn around Brad struck them in the back. He didn't pause once to watch one fall. He was too busy attacking the next as they all soon fell. I slammed my foot into several of them knocking them aside. One of them came at me, but I ducked low and slammed my fist into his stomach. He gasped, doubled over, and crumpled to the ground. A man was thrown over our heads by a familiar man with black haired man with blue eyes.
"Colonel Edgar" I greeted him. He wiped a few blood stains of his hands, and ducked under a body flung over someone's shoulder. Enemy soldiers began to run out of the town. They were frantically firing energy blasts, and other various weapons as our men chased them out. Those who didn't make it out were slaughtered. The slaughtered enemy warriors lined the streets in the stream of blood running into the underground sewer system. I leaned back out of the way as the towns afterwar team ran through. The after-team was in charge of the clean up, and bringing any wounded warriors of ours to the hospital.
I let out a sigh of relief.
"Don't sigh just yet, the war isn't over" Edgar reminded me. I couldn't help but smile,
"But I survived another battle" I cheered. He shrugged in response. Colonel Edgar was old for a warrior. Thirty nine was old, in fact he was probably the oldest colonel we'd ever had!
"I suppose, heh, and I guess you've gotten stronger" be finally replied.
"Nah, I'm the same old soldier" I said. Brad punched my shoulder, and I stumbled forward. I winced in pain, but I managed to laugh.
"Don't be so modest" he laughed.
"Yeah, right" I muttered. I sighed again, 'that burst of strength I wonder where it came from?' I questioned myself. I wasn't that strong. I should have fallen over exhausted, yet I had the strength to get up and fight again.
We started to return to the military camp where they were serving fresh wines of all types. I took a seat next to an injured boy. His arm in a sling, and their was a long wound running down his arm.
"Whoa, that's a nasty wound" I commented. The boy looked in my direction. He had short dark brown hair that was almost red.
"Just a reminder of the war" he said. His voice wasn't very deep, it was almost a girls voice, but it couldn't be. Women weren't allowed in the military. Still, for a brief moment I thought he was a girl.
"I've heard of you" He said, "you're Jeremy" he pointed out.
"Yeah, but how do you know who I am. I don't recognize you?" I asked suspiciously.
"My name is Erza, I'm new here and Sir Helton is my teacher" he informed me.
"Oh, and what does the man say about me?" I asked curiously.
"That your highly unfocused and uncoordinated" he laughed. Great, so this was what I was known for.
"I got to go" Erza said. He left still laughing. Great, I was the uncoordinated, unfocused idiot to everyone. What a lovely way to describe me. Either way, I wouldn't be that for long.
