I live in the country Anova, and two things are certain. We are at war, and innocent people must die. We are fighting for land, wealth, survival, saftey. To sum it all up we are fighting for one thing in common with the enemy. If we have it, it  means you ate well, and didn't worry about be attacked in the middle of the night. If you didn't have power it meant your life was a nightmare. Right now the line between those with it and those without has been stretched thin because of the war. When us over though, some will live, and some will die.

"Pay attention!" Brad snapped, his voice snapped me out of my thoughts. His sword hit my shoulder. Blood dripped from the small wound, and stained my  shiny body armor. I raise my sword to counter his attack, holding it at an angle. His sword clashes with mine, and I push back. He raises a foot, kicking me backwards, and as I stumble he knocks the sword out of my hand. I fall to the ground. Brad held the blade at my neck, the coldness made my skin prickle.

"You die here Jeremy" he said sternly. He glared at me with blue eyes as cold as stone.

"Bradley" I replied with the same harsh tone. I glared back with my green eyes.

He raised the above me, and thrust it forward. I didn't flinch a muscle. I simply stared up at the sky. The blade hit the dirt causing bits of dirt to fly into my face. The blade if the sword touched my ear. I could smell the dirt from the many inexperienced apprentice hands that have touched the sword as well.

"You have been defeated" he mocked, and he offered a hand to help me up.

"But the battle has just begun" he replied. He helped me up, and I wiped sweat dripping off my light brown hair.

"Your lack of focus is going to get you killed" he advised as I heavily drank water from a jug. I waved a hand at him dismissively, and set the jug down.

"It's just practice Bradley" I replied. He glared at me for calling him Bradley, and suddenly charged forward. I dodged his fist, and attempted to punch him in the face. He moved back a step just barely dodging. He jumped backwards a couple feet, and I charged forward. I licked high aiming for his head, but he ducked, and swept out with his door to trip me. I spun and jumped on one foot. I landed firmly on my feet smirking triumphantly as I whirled around. The metallic gauntlet around our wrists clanged against the other. I pushed back against him, but he shoved my back. I hit the grass glaring at him.

"Jeremy!" A familiar voice yelled, "And I wounded warrior does not stay down!" He added. I scrambled to my feet. Brad and I stood still at attention as our teacher, Dale Helton, entered the training field. The training field wasn't as crowded as it was most days, but when it was everyone made room for Dale to walk by. Dale Helton was tall, and muscular, and had brown hair and eyes. Dale figure you wish you were. I, unfortunately, was the exact opposite. He sighed disappointedly,

"I wish you'd focus a bit more Jeremy. I'm sure you'd find yourself stronger if you did" he scolded me. 'Yeah right, I'm the weakest man here' I doubted him. He glared at me, knowing I was doubting what he said.

"Er- yes sir!" I replied hesitantly. I pulled something out of his belt I hadn't noticed. It was wrapped carefully, and judging by the shape it was a sword. He handed it to Brad who immediately started to unwrap. Before I could even see it a metallic sort of smell beneath the papery, musty smelling wrap. In Brad's hands was a dark grey, almost black sword. The handle was wrapped in a red and black fabric. He waved around the obviously lightweight sword.

"Some consider it to be an assassin's blade" he informed him.

"Meaning its magical" Brad guessed. Dale nodded his head. Brad waved the sword around. He laughed as the shadow of the of the sword could be manipulated. Assassin swords were swords that explained themselves already, they were for killing. Most were lightweight for quick action, and the one Brad had was good for moving quickly and stealthily in the shadows.

"Alright I want you to come at me full strength, and-" he began to challenge when a distance away in the town an explosion could be heard. I charged forward to attack Dale when he simply swung his fist out knocking me over immediately.

"Practice will have to continue later" he decided. I rubbed my sore head, and stood up. Brad was already running towards the town. I hurried to catch up to him into the town where the fighting was already becoming pretty bad. Sparks flew from some of the buildings, and smoke was beginning to fill the air. I coughed as I stopped at the beginning of the road into town. The sound of people screaming sent me running into town. Unlike Brad, and many other soldiers I had a different kind of power. It was time to fight now.
