After what transpired between Chad and I, I finally decided it was best for me to move. Jamaica is great but I am ready for a new adventure. I shuddered at the thought of going to the same school as Chad in September. I really don’t know what I saw in him. I guess I just loved the attention he gave me.

I really wish my mom was here so we could talk about boys and girly things. My dad is great but if I had told him about Chad- I’m sure he would be dead or in the hospital by now. He is seriously over-protective of me. I hate it sometimes because I don’t get to go out often- except with him of course. I guess I will have to endure it until I’m become eighteen.

While walking down the road I decided to call my dad to pick me up. He came 15 minutes later.

“Hey sweetie, are you okay? Where are your friends?” He inquired.

“Um…they left a few minutes ago.” I responded to his last question.

“Aria, what happened? Are you okay? Talk to me.”

“Nothing happened dad! I’m fine okay, let’s grab something to eat.”

“Where do you want to go Ari?”

“How about ‘Mystic India’ in Ironshore, I hear that they have great Indian food.”

“Okay sweetie. Listen Ari, I know its really hard to leave your friends and this country that you have grown to love but I think you will like America. Please just be open-minded about this and trust me. Okay?”

I thought about what my dad said. Maybe he’s right, I guess am being really uptight about this moving thing. I can always visit Jamaica in the summer.

“Sure dad, fine, Ill give it a shot- it’s not like I have a choice anyway,” I finally responded with a smile.

I saw my dad’s shoulders release pent up tension and a smile broke out on his face. His blue eyes came to life once more as he said, “that’s my little princess.”

I couldn’t help but smile more.

We finally pulled into the driveway of the restaurant. It was pretty fancy and inviting. We were directed to a table by a nice Indian lady who also took our orders. The food was divine and for the first time in a long while, I really connected with my dad.

So the day of our departure finally came. It was Sunday,I had already packed so started bringing my suitcase   downstairs. We had a 2:30 flight and it was already 1:30 so we had to begin making a move.

"Dad!” I yelled, "come help me with my suitcase please".

"Coming sweetie!” he shouted as he ran up the stairs and took my suitcase from me.

He loaded our suitcases into the corolla while I locked the doors and windows of the house.

When everything was finished, we got in the car and began making our way to the airport.

I filled my eyes with the last scenery of the beautiful island before I fell asleep.

I felt something like a tap on my shoulder that gradually turned into shaking.

“Aria.”

"Yes!” I jumped startled and looked around, "oh, we're here."

"Yes we are here, let's go sweetie."

I yawned, got up, shut the door, took up my bag pack and pulled my suitcase, following behind my Dad.

We entered the Sangster’s International Airport and went to the checking area. We tagged our bags and the airport officials checked and weighed them. We then boarded the plane and sat in silence until I heard the Pilot's voice over the intercom saying that they are ready to take off. That’s when it hit me again that I am leaving Jamaica, I am leaving my paradise...

I slept for most of the flight, I only woke up to eat and to find out how far we were. To be honest I am anxious as this is my first time going to America and I really don't know what to expect.

Fear of the unknown I guess.

As plane was getting ready to land, I looked through the window and saw the amazing 'big apple' for the first time. The view was spectacular: huge skyscrapers everywhere and city lights. Even the airport was amazing; it was huge and filled with lots of people from all over the world (I presumed).

My dad smiled at my awed expression. “It’s lovely isn’t it sweetie?”

“It definitely is dad," I replied with a smile.
