Today is the day, I've been looking forward to this for 4 years; Prom.I get up from the kitchen table and put my bowl, previously full of strawberries, in the sink.
"Jordan?" I hear my mom call from upstairs.
"Yeah?" I call as I grab my phone from the counter and head for the stairs.
"When are you leaving? It's almost 3:30," I see her head peek over the railing at the top of the stairs.
"I'm leaving now, don't worry. I'll see you in a bit." I grab the car keys and shove my feet into my black flip-flops.
I made a hair and makeup appointment with my aunt for 3:30 and if I missed it, my mom wouldn't hear the end of it from her.
I grab my black purse and put it over my shoulder as I head out the door and into the truck.
As I climb into the driver's seat and shut the door, I look at the empty space on the road that my dad's car would normally be parked in and wonder when he'll be back.
First, He promised me that he wouldn't work on my prom day because he is normally late for everything. Then, he gets an 'emergency call' from work and has to leave, so he promises to be back by 5. Three hours before it starts.
Truthfully, I would've felt more relaxed knowing that he was at home, but I guess I just have to take his word that he will be home in time.
I sigh as I shift to drive and start my way through the neighborhood.
I get to the hair salon at 3:25 with 5 minutes to spare. As I enter the salon and put the keys in my purse, I am immediately greeted by my aunt Savannah.
"Jordan! Hey!" I could tell she was excited. She pulls me into a hug and I can see a man over her shoulder in the waiting seat looking at her.
She pulls away but keeps her hands on my shoulders.
"You ready for your big day?" Her dark blue eyes sparkle behind her black thick frame glasses.
Her burgundy hair was tied into a messy bun on top of her head, looking more purple than red today.
"Yup," I smile and nod a bit.
"Alright let's get started." She leads me to a room in the back.
I've already explained what I wanted to her the last time I was at her house, which was about three days ago.
She is kind of a loud person, but also very friendly, so I think this job is perfect for her. She makes friends wherever she goes and makes great first impressions.
She's got a boyfriend, Raymond, that she has been dating for about 5 years and he is really nice. She constantly talks to me about wanting him to propose so they can have kids someday. Savannah absolutely loves Liam and Chris. I'm pretty sure she would adopt them if she had the chance.
As I sit down in the chair for her to wash my hair and she puts the towel around my neck, I can see her tattoo on her wrist of a wolf howling at a full moon. She uses the tattoo as a reminder that woman are wild like wolves, and should always be free.
"So, your mom told me that you are moving to L.A tomorrow," She turns on the tap and begins washing my hair, the smile growing bigger on her face.
I stare at the ceiling and my stomach tightens.
"Yeah, My boyfriend asked me a week ago and he's gonna come tomorrow to pick me up." I smiled, but I wanted to frown.
I suddenly felt nervous. Earlier, it felt like when you are joking, but now, it feels more real and scary.
