I wish I hadn't turned because after seeing Raphael, Bea followed him and now they're standing in front of me. "Hey" Bea greeted. I just smiled at them and left immediately. It's like someone's tearing up my heart in the inside. I didn't expect my feelings to return this fast, or they just didn't disappear?
We prepared for the performance already. It's almost 1 and in just five minutes, the afternoon program will start. Our coach said a few reminders. I was wearing a blue cocktail dress partnering it with a silver mask. The others are already wearing the proper costume and it's short and a top printed with camouflage for girls and the boys are wearing cargo pants for the bottom and shirt camouflage. Under my dress, i'm already wearing my short and a loose sando printed with camouflage.
"Bring out the best huh" our team captain, Ryce said. Everyone's doing their best to encourage themselves. According to them, our school never won any of the state competition or even outside competition because of the unbeatable Armstrongs.
"Priceless" Jodi had said.
I have a nice view in the crowd from the backstage. Zac and the others are siting on the right. Armstrongs are also ready and so does the others. We have this advantage of using the backstage because this is our school and we can use everything in it. The other schools used the small rooms in the sides. Armstrongs are wearing formal attire. Bea's school which is West High School are wearing jaguar prints.
"Alright! It looks like our contenders are ready! Should we start the contest?" Suddenly, the emcee started talking. People started cheering.
"It looks like the crowd's ready too! So now, let's get this show on the road! May I request all the groups to go to that side" The emcee said. We went outside. All eyes were fixed on me because i'm wearing different. Our theme is a love story of a girl who loves this soldier and she wanted to join her.
The West High's the first one then four school before Armstrongs then three schools before us then one after us. The total of eleven schools.
Bea's group already went to the stage. The lights of the gym became the lights of our theatre, dark and the light is focused on the stage.
The music starts and they started dancing.
It's Armstrong's turn. We're really awestruck because they're great. It's completely polished and executed very well and with style. They had tumblings and freestyles which really set the crowd wild. Everyone was cheering for them after their performance. I watched them as they go down the stage, hoping to see him and apparently, Raphael's looking at me too. I had to look away so he won't notice that I still care for him.
It's almost our turn and we're in the side of the stage already.
"Shantel, do the face huh so they could recognize what's this all about" Jodi kept reminding me to do the exact face of a torn woman in the beginning.
"Shantel, don't also forget about the flip and you too Trey"
"Jodi, smile smile smile"
And many more words circling us. I'm starting to feel a little queasy. Then it hit me, I hope no one recognizes me here. I admit, not everyone knows me but not everyone recognizes me. I'm sure some schools here are funded by my father. I checked myself on the mirror and I look different. I remembered, they put green make up in the top of our eyes which is really dark.
"Levine-Strom-Green Dance Troupe!" The announcer called. It's our cue. We went to the stage and prepared.
I went to the middle and everyone to the side except for my partner.
Thinking of You started playing. We started dancing. It's really sweet and I'm actually doing the face. I'm imagining myself so much in love. Then the guy left. I was watching him (of course while dancing) go away then we heard a gun shot. That's our cue.
