Dr. Cullen had been working all day and almost all night. Everybody told him he should go home and get some rest, but Cullen didn't need rest. He hated staying at home and helping himself when he could be saving the lives of others. He only had two more patients before they'd make him leave, Elizabeth Mason and her son, Edward. Elizabeth would do anything for Edward.
Dr. Cullen entered their room, his eyes widening in shock instantly, seeing Elizabeth as pale as a sheet, and for a moment thought she'd already died until her heavy eyes, heaved open. She spoke to him in a hoarse voice, that wasn't her own.
"I know what you are, Cullen, and I beg you, you must do anything in your power, what the others cannot, you must do it, for Edward and Lilly…"
The doctor was left, staring at her for a moment, then replied, somewhat nervously. "Mrs. Mason, who's this Lilly you speak of?"
She smiled, but the effort of doing so seemed almost too much. "She's Like you, Cullen, but half of my kind. She's only a baby, and she's been by herself for days, find her, find her at 2440 South 10th Street, please, Cullen, save my children…" Her voice trailed off, her voice growing weaker.
With one last shaking breath, Elizabeth Mason became still. Life had left her.
Dr. Cullen wasn't sure what to think, what did she mean by knowing what he was, or half and half? He took her word and took both her and Edward to the morgue, then brought Edward home.
Before Edward's life was lost swell, Dr. Cullen changed him. After seeing that the change was affective, he set off to find the child that Elizabeth had spoken of.

He entered the Mason's house cautiously, in the silence he could hear a soft sound of what resembled a heartbeat. Following it, he discovered a baby.
"You must be Lilly…" He whispered, slowly lifting the child.
Her eyes followed him, almost as if she understood.
Lilly was thirsty, and began to sob. Dr. Cullen took her home, but on the way home he encountered a dead, somewhat mangled stray cat, and Lilly cried louder. Realising what Elizabeth was talking about, Dr. Cullen bobbed down, and lifting the cat to the child's mouth, she began to drink.
Dr. Cullen watched as Lilly Mason grew, with stunning green eyes, the bronze in Edwards hair flew freely in her way locks.

“Lilly!” I heard an all too familiar voice call.
What was Edward doing home? I thought he was supposed to be on a ‘family’ trip thing with his new girlfriend?
“We have a problem,” he said, rushing into my room.
