Camila's POV

Emerging from behind a pair of dry, old oak tress came the elegant beasts, immune to the bitter wind cutting through the docile colors of their silky fur. At first they were little more than silhouettes, only their twitching wet snouts glistening under the dim light of the moon and their loud, spine chilling growling almost carried away by the howling wind. But as they neared the crackling flames of the fire, my eyes adjusted into the giant beast that stood graciously in the middle of them all--fur discernible and wintry like snow smoothed back by the chilly Miami wind. It took all of my will power not to shrink up into a ball behind Dinah beside me and hide from the intimidating gaze of the werewolf standing in front of our log, double or maybe even triple my size, snarling and growling loudly as if about to pounce and attack.

The grip I held on both Dinah and Normani continued to intensify as the large, bold pack neared dangerously close. I can hear the shaky puffs leaving my trembling lips, parted open in complete fear and shock they begin to communicate with each other. If I knew what they were trying to tell me as they all stared back at me with their flashing eyes, especially the golden eyed girl in the center now grunting and growling gracefully.

"They're s-so big," I mutter in a harsh whisper, feeling my heart speed up quickly as they prance around in circles, the rest of the Jauregui siblings creating a bodied fence around the white and hazel wolf in the center in a more protective way.

"It's okay, they won't hurt you." Normani soothes my hand with her other available warm one. I look up into her dark eyes and look back at the white wolf leaning its weight on its front paw, her hind legs far behind her flawlessly. I look over at Dinah and my eyes almost ask for a pleading permission for her to accompany me in observing the enormous, yet elegant creatures in front of me.

"I'll be right behind you," Dinah mumbles, offering a hand before standing up and walking up just a bit to encourage me. I sigh shakily and squeeze her hand in mine as we walk further along the small path leading further to the right of he fire. "They won't hurt you, try to calm down."

I assume she's referring to the forceful sound of my firm heartbeat as I near the snarling and continuously active creatures all staring at me curiously and slowly leaning as I near. As soon as I'm close enough to reach out and pet Lauren, all of them begin to shuffle to my sides and simultaneously kneel on the joint of one single leg, heads bowed down lowly and front paws extended with high, wagging tails.

My breath hitches and I back up a little, bumping into Dinah who extends my hand up in the air with hers, "They're bowing to you, their Alpha. Give them permission to rise...like this." Dinah extends my and in a ninety degree angle to my elbow is bent and all ears twitch and all golden fleck eyes snap up to meet me, now slowly beginning to rise.

I feel my cheeks heat up for some reason, feeling a sense of pride in knowing I was the second ruler of their pack. I slowly turn to look up at Lauren shyly through my lashes, the large creature only arm length away from me almost double my size in height.

I can feel the ragged breaths leave through her wet snout, the large creature leaning her weight on one paw before she shifts to the other in frequent whines. I furrow my brows and turn to look at Dinah behind me to why Lauren was whining and shifting on both her front paws anxiously.

"Oh, uhm..." Dinah looks the werewolf in the eyes, tentively bringing her long fingers towards the creature's cheek and closing her fluttering eyes for a brief second before opening them to meet my own brown ones. "I think she's remembering something, she's feeling very anxious right now because..." Dinah furrows her eyebrows and she looks further more concentrated, screwing her eyes shut. "I feel like something happened to you in these very woods, and she's getting flashbacks."
