Camila's POV
The warm humidity of these woods made me feel sticky and suffocated. My clothes and hair, slick with perspiration, clung to my skin in a muggy mess. I gasp as I wobbly swat another pesky insect, causing my vision to blur for just a split second. Sweat rolls down my skin in thick, salty beads that continue to roll down my neck and chest. I can feel my heart throbbing inside my chest, beating painfully hard that I have to grip my chest while letting my legs almost fly off the ground. My skin felt like it was roasting, my throat was dry and my lungs felt like they could shrivel up inside my chest any second now. My gasps are throaty as I try to catch my breath, breathing sloppily through my mouth like I was choking on the air that ripped through my lungs.
My arms swing behind every stroke my leg gives, back and forth so hard that I can feel my muscles pulse painfully. A strangled groan leaves my lips when I feel like I can't run anymore, turning to my side to feel Lauren's hand gripping mine tightly like she couldn't bear to let go. My eyes are blurred in tears and she begs me to keep going, her strangled words sloppy and out of breath. "Don't stop! Don't look back, keep running!"
I can't help but glance behind my shoulder in panic, feeling my heart sink when I spot Dinah carrying a limp body and Normani glancing every few seconds behind her with a blood splashed face in a daze, tired and hurrying as they use their speed in advantage.
"I can't," I sob into the air, feeling my legs buckle underneath me before I strengthen them with one long groan. The muscles in calves were pulsating each time my foot hit the ground, my thighs quivering and my heart beginning to beat quicker and quicker to the point where I feel like it'll be my last breathe. God, help me.
"Just a few more, Camila! Let's go, just a few more minutes!" Lexa calls from in front of me, her shirt ripped wide enough to spot the dry blood all over her abdomen. I don't bother to look at Clarke, not wanting to see the horrid bloody mess in her hair and hands after she had ripped a man's heart out of his chest. It was gruesome.
"This isn't going to work," Lauren suddenly stops behind me and I almost fall forward. I stop right away and with each breath I take in, my chest heaves up and down rapidly. I grip the girl's hands and try to speak but no words come up, begging her with my eyes to keep running. She shakes her head and she begins to remove her shirt, giving me a knowing look. She was going to shift. "Camila, you follow Clarke and Normani, take Ally and I'll fight them off with Dinah and Lexa, okay?"
"No, please don't leave." I beg her, glancing at the pack of wild vampires running not too far behind. I feel my stomach churn and I don't let go of her shirt, fisting the material with glassy eyes. "They'll hurt you. They'll hurt you guys, that can't happen."
The green eyed girl stares into my eyes for only a split second and she places a hand over my cheek, try to calm me down. I feel my heart jump when Lauren leans in to press a soft kiss to my cheek, smiling softly before whispering her reassuring words.
"I'll be okay. I promise." She breathes out tiredly, panting with sweat dripping down the sides of her flushed face. "Trust me, just trust me."
"Let's go!" Clarke pulls my arm and carries me off my feet, wrapping my legs around her waist. I breathe out a sigh of relief when she uses her speed as an advantage to help me get there just as fast. I wrap my arms around her neck and my legs around her waist tightly so I don't fall as she continues to run, holding me with one arm for leverage. I gasp when she jumps over a small log and my heart sinks when her feet hit the ground, the blonde scrambling forward before pushing me up against a tree.
