CHAPTER 7
After changing I had expected to find Reed there but instead I found Teal. She always pitched up at the randomest times.
"I came to get you," she said happily. Before I could ask where, she grabbed my arm and pulled me out the door, but not before I grabbed hold onto my bag. I couldn't let the journal out of my sight. We made our way to the car where everyone was already seated.
Angel was driving with Teak in the front seat. Teal sat in the corner; I sat in the centre which left Reed on my other side.
"Well since this is your day off from training, we thought we could all have a bit of fun!" Teak was over excited. It probably ran in the family.
Their idea of fun was not fun for me. We ended up going to the beach. I, for one, am not a big fan of the beach. It brings back memories of happier days, and as much as I want to remember those days, it makes me think of the bad days too.
Ever since leaving I had barely thought of my pack and I finally felt happy.
Maybe the beach would have been more fun if I had actually brought a bath suit, but I didn't have any clothes. I relaxed slightly at the thought of not having to swim. But that was until Angel spoke up.
"Here I brought this for you." She held up a bikini. I could not wear that. Firstly, it was way too skimpy for me and secondly they would see the bruises in that. Reed was the only one that knew what happened and I wasn't ready to tell the rest of them.
"Urm, maybe she should just sit here with me, you know, and keep watch of our stuff," Reed said. He must have sensed my discomfort. I was thankful for him.
I nodded. "Suit yourself," Angel said and tossed it into her bag. She bounced off to the water followed by the twins.
"Thanks for that,” I said as soon as they all were out of earshot. I set the towel down and sat next to him, with our shoulders touching.
He smiled. "Don't mention it. I didn't think that you would have wanted to tell them about... About," his smile faded and his shoulders tensed.
"My abusive pack?" I filled in for him.
"I just.. I don't understand how you could have put up with them!" He seemed angry now. I didn't want him to be angry.
I put my hand on his shoulder and he turned to look at me. "It’s okay. It’s over now." He seemed to relax after that. He didn't turn away, he just continued to look me in the eye.
He slowly leant forward. I was frozen in my spot. Was he going to kiss me? We barely knew each other and he had a mate. Somewhere.
While my mind was going into overdrive, I hadn't realised how close he had gotten to me. Just as our lips were going to touch, I finally came to my senses. What was this boy doing to me? I couldn't believe I was about to kiss him when I barely knew him for a day.
I brought my hands up to his shoulders to stop him. "Wait." I murmured.
"Oh shi- did you not want this? I'm such an idiot." And then he groaned into his hand.
"No it’s not that! I want this but you have a mate and when you find her I'm the one who's going to get hurt."
"I'm sorry, I didn't think about your feelings, just mine." He looked sad.
"It's okay," I gave him my biggest smile. "So, friends?"
"Yeah friends," he said with a small smile.
We sat in silence for a while, until it was broken by him. "I'm going to go in the water for a bit? Wanna come?"
"No thanks. I'll watch over our stuff."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah! Go have fun." I really wanted to read my mother’s journal. As soon as he was gone I had the journal out and ready to read.
Dear Carol
Every day I leave without explaining, but today shall be different. You see, Michael is out tonight so I can explain everything.
I have met someone. His name is Ian. I think I might love him. But the thing is, I have a mate! How can I be in love with a human while I have a mate? Aren't mate bonds supposed to be so strong that nothing can make you feel anything for anyone else? What is happening to me?
Oh Carol, I'm such a terrible person. I really do love Michael but I feel a little something more with Ian
I need to take control of this situation before it gets out of hand.

"Whatcha reading there?" Angel’s voice interrupted.
"Err... Just this book I brought from home," I said quickly not wanting her to know what it really was. Fortunately for me Angel quickly got distracted by the cute life guard. She stalked off to meet him without saying another word. Just as I was about to reopen my journal I saw Teak jogging my way.
"Don't mind me, I'm just here for a little nap," he said before plonking down in the empty spot beside me. He laid back and placed a beach hat over his face. A few minutes later I could hear his snoring.
Finally I could continue reading. Or that's what I thought before I saw Teal running towards me. Just as she was about to reach our spot she managed to trip over the sand and had ungracefully fallen onto Teak, getting sand all over him and herself. And there goes my peace and quiet.
"Ooof," he said getting up, his voice slightly muffled from the hat.
She got up, the sand stuck all over her wet body.
"What's your problem? You got sand all over me!" Teak exclaimed.
"Well nobody told you to sit in the place I was going to land!" Teal fought back.
"Well nobody told you to be such a klutz!"
"Well nobody told you to be so annoying!"
"Well nobody told you-"
"GUYS!" I interrupted. I have been with them for less than a day and they argued more times than I could have counted.
"Err sorry. Well I came to tell you'll that we leaving just now,” and she bounced off to clean herself.
Once everyone had come together we made our way out. I spent the rest of the day getting to know them better. They were the friends I've wanted all my life.
