CHAPTER 1
__________
The story of my parents is a tragic one. It should not have happened to them and I should not have been there to witness it. Life is a mystery. It’s a big puzzle, and in the end all the pieces fit together to solve the mystery. My parents were just the beginning of my puzzle.

BANG! The door shut behind me as I ran off into the woods. It was a few days after my ninth birthday and to top it off I was a newly shifted wolf. I knew that day would come when I would have my first shift, but I hadn’t expected it so soon, and so I was still getting used to it.
I had a lot on my mind that day. I was thinking about the day I would meet my mate, the only person who would give you their unconditional love, except for your parents of course. Earlier on my mom had been telling me the story of how she and my dad had met and it was my favourite. I couldn’t wait to meet my mate. I wanted my love story to be just like theirs; sweet and romantic.
I was so deep in thought that I hadn’t realised that I ran too far into the woods. The sun was now blocked out and it had gotten a lot dimmer. I was suddenly very aware of my surroundings. I could hear voices. I followed the voices until I reached its location. That’s when I saw them.
Hunters.
There were two of them and they were with my parents. My parents were both in human form. My dad must have sensed me as he sent me a message through our mind link.
Stay wherever you are and no matter what happens stay hidden. And also, I love you.
I obeyed my father. He wouldn’t have wanted me to hide without any reason. My mind wandered as to why he would tell me he loves me. He was a strong guy. There was no way some hunters could harm him.
“I told you that we are not going to help you!” my father shouted.
“Then I have no choice,”the one hunter said. But before I could even blink my dad had lunged at him and punched him in the face. That must have hurt seeing that the hunter was human but he quickly regained his posture.
The hunter pulled out a silver dagger that was tucked behind his shirt. Oh no. My heart rate quickened. Now he actually had a chance against my dad. As the hunter was going to plunge the dagger into my dad’s heart, my dad managed to grab the hunters hand and fling the dagger away. What happened next was a blur. Just as my dad was going to finish off the hunter, the second hunter plunged his own dagger into my dad’s heart. That was instant death. They were smarter than what I gave them credit for. My mom was now blinded by rage. She had somehow managed to find the dagger that my dad had managed to fling away, and threw it at the first hunter. She managed to hit him in his leg. She had forgotten about the other hunter. Even with the injured hunter, she was outnumbered. I knew what was going to happen next. I wanted to help her, but all I could thing about was my father’s last wish, Stay hidden.
I leant back against the tree I was hiding behind and blocked my ears and closed my eyes as my bottom made its way to the ground. I didn’t want to hear the screams. The tears silently fell down my face.
The hunters were not stupid. They knew wolves would be coming, so they ran. Once making sure that they were gone, I ran to my parents. Or what were my parents. My dad laid on the ground, his eyes drained of any colour.
And my mom, she looked so still, until I hear her gasping for breath. She was still alive!
“Mom! Mommy!” I ran to her, my 9 year old self so relieved to see that I still had one parent still living. I crouched down beside her and lifted her head onto my lap.
