CHAPTER 12
____________
There were gasps everywhere. All heads turned to the direction of the voice. Reed. I silently groaned. Of course it would be the one person I was in love with, the person who made me forget about Sean. I should have expected something like this.
I turned to the direction of Amanda. She was staring sheepishly at her feet, almost as if she knew.
"You knew?!" I suddenly burst. "You knew yet you continued to lead Sean on!" I walked towards her until I was no more than a meter away from her.
She closed the space between us and whispered in my ear, "Isn't that what your mate did to you?" She then winked at me and turned around. So Sean had told her I was his mate. My fists clenched.
Create a diversion, I thought.
I turned to Sean. He looked heart broken. "Serves you right, mate," I spat at him.
I then turned to my sister. Steam was coming out my ears and the anger was oozing out of me. I couldn't control it anymore. All I could think of was her years of torture. Every hand she laid on me. It all my life I have never hated her more. Before I knew what I was doing I clenched up my fist. Sean saw it coming. His eyes went big. But he was too far to stop it.
What happened next seemed to happen in slow motion. I put my hand on Amanda's shoulder, turned her around and punched her right in the nose.
"You little bi-" but she was cut off when she pounced on me. She wasnt as weak and pathetic as I thought she would be, but i did get a few jabs ins. She grabbed me by my hair and clawed at my face. I managed to elbow her in the stomach before felt myself being ripped away from her.
She was lying on the floor acting as if she was seriously injured. I knew she wasn't because I barely knew how to fight. Reed and Teal were by my side. Teak and Angel were somewhere in the crowd by Amanda.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't stop myself," I said. I wasn't sorry though. She deserved it. I just didn't want to lose Reed.
"Its okay."
"You should go be there for her." I wanted him to say no, he wanted to be there for me. Why was I so damn nice?
"She chose Sean, not me."
"Well, she won't be able to resist you."
"Thanks," he smiled and gave me a hug. He then made his way through the crowd to the front. He picked up an unconscious Amanda and carried her out. Okay, maybe she wasn't faking her injury.
As he walked out with her I felt a stab in my chest. So this is what its like to get your heart broken. Like really broken. not just my-mate-rejected-me-I'm-oh-so-heartbroken. The truth is, Reed made me forget all about Sean, He showed me what true mates should be like, even if we weren't mates.
I saw Teal look at me sympathetically. She tugged on my arm and we walked back to the pack house. I made my way to the attic with Teal silently following. I realised she hadn't seen my room yet.
"Welcome to my room of awesomeness," I stated flatly. I walked to my bed and jumped on it. Teal just stood in the doorway, her eyes slightly wide.
"This is where they making you sleep?"
"Yeah, isn't it just incredible!" sarcasm was thick in my voice.
"This is ridiculous! Come on Laine you're coming to stay with me." She was furious.
"Teal I appreciate your concern but I'm fine. I've lived here almost my whole life."
"Does Reed know about this?"
I nodded.
"How could he stand for something like this! How dare they treat you like this! You know what, I'm going to do something about this."
"NO! That will just make things worse."
"Well I'm not going to let you stay here!"
"Wait, if I come stay with you, would you please leave it?"
She sighed, "Okay, but that doesn't mean I'm okay with what they did."
"Thank you," I said. I walked to her and hugged her. But I wasn't thanking her for leaving it. I was thanking her for actually caring.
We managed to gather up all my stuff and transfer it to her room in one trip. Her room wasn't so big and only had one bed.
"Are you sure this is fine?" I asked.
"Positive. Besides, if you're worried if the room is too small for both of us, I'll be going away in a few days."
"What? No you can't leave me!"
She chuckled,"Don't worry I'll be back. Remember how I said my pack got wiped out? Well I think I found a few relatives of mine. Problem is that they aren't werewolves, so I'm not too sure if they know about us."
"When are you going?"
"Friday."
"And when do you come back?"
"Don't worry its just a week. Besides, we can phone each other, or text."
I smiled at her. "You're right. One week is nothing. So is Teak going with you?"
"No he decided to stay here. I think he's afraid they won't accept him."
"I think they're going to love you." I smiled at her. We then chatted until it was time to go to bed. We went to sleep early so we could be fresh for our first day of school.
