The Perfect Crime

Chapter 10

CHAPTER 10

I was freaking out. We were going to leave in 10 minutes. It would take us 4 hours to get there. For the past 2 months we had been traveling, from motel to motel, without any destination. We were like Sam and Dean Winchester, just driving and hoping to stumble across something supernatural. And by supernatural I mean werewolves. But more specifically, a pack.

But we never had such luck. Until now. Not that I would call it luck. More like horrible fortune. I spent days trying to get as far away from them as possible, and now all it took was 4 hours to get back. I wondered if anyone ever looked for me. Or ever went to sleep with a guilty conscience. Is it wrong for me to hope that they did?

I felt Reed take a hold of my hand and give me a reassuring smile.

"You're going to be fine," he said and squeezed my hand. For the first time I actually believed him.

Everyone took an hour to drive, except me since I couldn't drive. I didn’t have such privileges back home. If you can even call it that. You would think that since we are werewolves we would just run, but no, we don’t like to tire out our inner dog. Right now Teak drove while Teal sat in the front. The rest of us sat in the back, with me in the middle and Angel and Reed on either side of me. Angel had fallen asleep while I laid my head on Reeds shoulder.

“Hey, Reed?” I nudged him lightly in the ribs.

“Hmmm?” he groaned half asleep.

“Why do you want to be a direwolf?”

“Well besides the fact they’re really strong, they’re also very powerful. Although silver affects them, it can’t kill them. The only way to kill a direwolf is to stab them in the centre of their heart, with a silver knife, done by their own flesh and blood. They were very high on keeping their family morals. That is why only a family had the power to kill the other direwolves. It is even said that they have the power to turn humans into werewolves. They sound awesome.”

“Then what happened to them?”

“Well there weren’t many direwolves. They were wonderful people, always tried to keep the peace. There were in their own pack but always offered their help towards the other packs. The Alpha of the direwolf pack had 2 sons. The older son was too immature so the Alpha appointed the younger son as the new Alpha. The other son was furious and rebelled against him. that was when the pack split up. The ones who disagreed with the Alpha sided with the older brother, and the others sided with the younger son. The families in the pack all split. They plotted against each other and eventually a war started. That is how the direwolves became extinct. They always believed in family and never thought it would come down to killing each other.it just goes to show you can’t trust anyone.” We both fell silent and Reed fell asleep.

We had been travelling for 3 hours already. That was 3 hours of the twins arguing. I was going to pull my hair out if they didn't stop.

Teak started singing to the song playing, “Lips like liquorice, tongue like candy, Excuse me miss, but can I get you out your panti-"

"You sound horrible singing!" Teal said with her face scrunched and switched the channel and started singing along. "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard and they're like it’s-"

"You sound worse!" And he switched the channel back and went back to singing. "She won't ever get enough, once she gets a little touch, if I had-"

"You sound like a donkey out of breath! Wait, that's an offense to out of breath donkeys!" And she then switched it back to the other song.

"I can teach you but I have to char-"

It wasn't long before Teak changed the channel again.

"My first kiss wen-"

"La la-la la la-"

"boys to the yard-"

"Leave my first kiss!" Teak screamed.

"Milkshake!" Teak screamed back.

"First kiss!"

"Milkshake!"

"First kiss!"

They kept on switching the music channels until I couldn't take anymore. If they didn't stop they would wake up Angel, and when she doesn't get her sleep, let's just say she's the opposite of an angel. "Okay stop! No more music. You guys are not mature enough to handle it." Why was I always the one to stop them?

Finally they stopped arguing. But it only lasted five minutes before they started again. Teak started drumming her fingers against the side.

"Could you stop that? It’s distracting me from driving," Teak said.

"It’s not like you're driving could get any worse," she said in a matter of factly way

"My driving is perfect!"

"For a person who has no sense of direction!"

"That doesn't even make sense."

"Well obviously not to you! You're the dumb twin."

"You take that back!" He tried to grab her with one hand while the other was on the steering wheel. Teak just stuck her tongue out at him.

"Teak, pull over." This time it was Angel. Uh oh, the beast has awoken.

"What! Why?"

"Just do as I say and no one gets hurt," she threatened.

Nobody wanted to deal with a cranky Angel so he complied. Once he pulled over she got out and pulled the door open to the front seat.  

"Get out," she growled slightly at Teal. She got out quickly not wanting to end up dead and sat where Angel sat; next to me.  

"Now drive," Angel hissed, "and if any of you wake me up again, my face will be the last thing you see. Got it?" And she went back to sleep. Everyone was too scared to talk after that.

Soon 15 minutes went by then half an hour and before I knew it, we had 5 minutes left until we reached. Angel was now awake, all bright and happy like she didn't scare us all half to death. She was humming the tune to Milkshake

I got so nervous that I started counting the seconds until we arrived. We drove down a familiar road and I knew that it would be only a matter of seconds until we arrived. Those were the longest seconds of my life.

We finally arrived at the pack house. We were met by Alpha Craig, Sean’s father, and his Beta. Reed got out and shook Craig’s' hand. The rest of us got out and thankfully he didn't bother to spare us a second glance. I was scared he was going to kick us out once he saw me.

".. and these are my friends-" he was about to tell Craig our names when he got cut off.

"Wait, you can introduce them to everyone at the same time at our pack meeting," he said as nicely as he could. "Come, everyone is waiting to meet you'll." He turned abruptly and started walking towards the pack hall. The others followed him to get accepted into the new pack while I followed him to my doom.
