CHAPTER 13

____________

Today was my first day of high school. It sort of just hit me that I've never been to high school yet. I wanted to skip but Teal forced me to go with her. Wow, my first time and I was already a badass and all.

I would have preferred to just go in the comfort of my jeans and sweater but unfortunately Teal wouldn't let me. After much debate we decidede that i should wear a pair of dark blue skinnies, a black tank top and a grey cardigan. The one thing I managed to get my own way with was my shoes, my converse. But hey, at least I looked decent.

Teal and I walked out with our arms linked. Yeah, she really didn't want me to skip. She dragged me down with her to the kitchen for breakfast. There were only a few chairs left. She headed in that direction. I suddenly stopped. I've never eaten on the table with everyone.

She tugged on my arm, urging me to go on. Everyone was giving me a cold stare. No one wanted me to sit with them and I didn't want to. But Teal had a strong grip on me and I knew she wouldn't let me go unless I went with her.

I gave in and calmly walked with her to the empty seats. I saw Reed sitting opposite me and Amanda was next to him.

She looked at me and smiled. "Good morning Laine." As soon as she said that I almost chocked on my own spit.

I had to be nice to her. For Reeds sake. I forced a smile at her. "Morning Amanda."

"Nu uh uh," she said wagging her finger, "Mandy. I only let my friends call me that."

That was a lie. She let everyone call her that. And since when was I her friend? What was the skank playing at?

Reed looked at her with pride in his eyes. I guess now it all made sense. She wanted him to think she was the perfect girlfriend.

Without warning she pulled him in and kissed him. I shot invisible daggers with my eyes at both of them, imagining the sweet sound of her screams as they peiced her skin. She only did that because I was there! Man I really hated her. They broke their kiss when they heard the scraping of my chair. I ran from the room, but I didn't miss that smug smile of hers.

I didn't eat anything. I wasn't even hungry anymore. I ran outside. I just wanted to get this day over with. As I started walking to school I heard a voice behind me.

"Laine, wait up!" Reed shouted.

I stopped and waited for him to catch up. I should have just ignored him. Why do I give in so easily to him?

Because you love him, idiot, my inner coice said.

"I just want to say thanks. For trying. I know its not easy."

"Damn right it isn't!" I screamed at him before turning and running the rest of the distance, which wasn't much. How could he expect so much from me. He knows what Amanda did to me. How could he just expect me to forgive her so easily? I hated seeing them so happy. To say it was hell would be an understatement.

I made sure I was early for school so I wouldn't have to face the stares. I walked to the foyer where the receptionist sat. She was a middle aged woman with short blonde hair. She was busy so she had me sit for a bit. While I was waiting Teal and Angel walked in.

"Hey, are you okay? You walked out from there pretty fast," Teal said.

"Yeah I'm fine. Just, you know, it was overwhelming." I patted the seat next to me. "Come sit. She'll be calling us just now," I said referring to the receptionist.

When she finally did call us she didn't look like she hated me. But she did look at me with pity. She gave us our timetable along with a map of the school. It wasn't terribly big so it was easy to find our way around.
