Chapter 1

A scream forced its way out of my mouth, echoing around the room, nearly popping my own ear drums. I flopped and squirmed on the metallic gurney like a fish out of water, my eyes rolling into the back of my head. My wrists and ankles were bound to the gurney, keeping me restrained.

The icy liquid coursed through my veins, making them glow vibrant blue through my skin, looking like spider webs. The liquid chilled me from the inside out, incasing my heart in a thick layer of ice. My brain thumped repeatedly against the inside of my skull, threatening to explode.

Scientists attempted to pin my flailing body down to the gurney, making the pain all the more excruciating the more they touched me. My body felt as though it was twisting and turning, forming into abnormal shapes that defied my bone structure.

Another horrendous, high-pitched scream echoed from my mouth, this time shattering beakers and sending the Scientists flying back against the walls. The room shook tremendously, the harsh fluorescent lights on the ceiling swaying and shaking vigorously. They flickered, darkening the windowless room before slowly coming back on, the sound of glass cracking and splitting echoing from the bulbs.

Shouts just barely registered in my mind over the piercing sound of my cry as everything in my vision dimmed. Then, something was strapped over my mouth and the screaming stopped, the lights flickering once more before brightening the room full blast again, blinding me for a moment.

The shapes of the Scientists hovered around me, poking and prodding me with weird instruments. I was holding onto consciousness by just a thin thread, trying to will myself from losing sight of the psychotic lab minions.

“Henry!” the double doors to the side of the Operation Room banged open, an older man with a heavy limp struggling in, all his weight supported by a cane. Three others stumbled in behind him, looking scraggly and broken. Cuts and welts were all over their bodies, their white lab coats and blue nurse uniforms colored crimson red.

The one man had crazy stormy eyes, matching his wild grey-streaked black hair. Part of his face was badly burnt and a lot of his naturally black hair was singed a darker shade. He looked as though he had just barely escaped death itself, all three of the unexpected guest did.

“Marcus!? What the hell are you doing here? You should be back at Alcatraz! What in God’s name happened to you?” the Scientist who I had learned was Henry a while ago. He didn’t look much older than the crazed and frantic man did, except his hair was dark brown with few grey strands and dull green eyes. Though the man, Marcus seemed tanned under the layer of blood and soot caked in with sweat, Henry was pale with lifeless skin.

“Henry, we had a blood bath on our hands. Alcatraz… The Alcatraz Facility is destroyed, in ruins!” Marcus stumbled forward, his eyes wide with a curios craziness and horror. Then they narrowed, darkening at, I had to guess, his college, Henry. “They were from your sector, Henry! Experiments Willow-Wisps and Fusion were from the Pompeii Facility! They had part in all of this mayhem!” Marcus accused viciously, clutching Henry’s lab coat collar as he bore holes into him with a glare that could kill.

The three people who had followed him in pried him off his college, holding him back, one tall and lean guy keeping a firm grip on his shoulder.

“You’re just lucky I was able to perform the operation before the whole place went down in smoke with just barely enough time for not even half of my team to get out!” he growled through bloodied and clenched teeth. I continued watching in silence from the gurney, though my eyes widening every second. The other facility was destroyed? By Experiments? How?

“Counterpart Two of Project Blood Moon has the combination of the Physiological Injections and the Natural Injections, making it the ultimate weapon. But now it and a handful of other rogues are free to roam the earth, not under our control, and are heading here to take down this Facility!” The crazy Scientist hissed, his face reddening with growing rage. “Not to mention Project Fusion has disappeared. With its’ powers in our control, we could’ve had a chance!”

“Marcus! Get a hold of yourself, man!” Henry spat, his face tight and contorted with a mixture of rage, annoyance, and possibly fear. His fists were gripped so tightly by his sides that his knuckles had turned white.

“Do you think we are that stupid and incompetent?! We’ve been prepared for their arrival. We’ve studied Willow-Wisps’ powers from the day they were activated! We know exactly how to control the rogues! From. The. Inside. Out.” Henry stated, the faces of his assistants behind him darkening.

Then out of nowhere, my vision began pulsing as my mind reeled, my body flailing uncontrollably as the world around me faded away, leaving the haunting conversation to swim around my mind.

There was hope for freedom yet…
