The break was over quickly and I was slowly going up the stairs as I ignored the hunger pains in the pit of my stomach. I typed in the code and entered the floor I worked on in the building. I managed to smile at some of the elders, stopping to talk to them for brief moments.

"There you are," a strong, sexy voice said to me and I turned to see Shane.

"Sorry, did I take too long?" I asked with guilt in my voice.

"No," he said as he frowned a bit but then smiled again, "step into my office. I have a special treat for you."

I hesitated but stepped into his small office. It had a long table in the back and on the side was a cart I assumed was filled with names of the residents and their medications. It had sticky notes on the walls and it smelled like...pizza? I looked over to the back table again and there was a box with a Pizza Hut label on it. I felt puzzled then I finally said, "I thought you were joking..."

"I never joke about food to pretty girls," he chuckled then hesitated, "You're not a vegetarian or a vegan, are you?"

I shook my head as I said, "no I am a meat eater...but I really shouldn't...I mean eat your pizza...I feel guilty that you wasted-"

"Don't say wasted money again," he warned me in a dark growl but there was a glint of sexiness in his eyes, "I bought it for us to share. So in my book it isn't wasted money. You have been working hard and deserve to be rewarded for it.:

My cheeks burned red and I was tugging at the ends of my hair nervously, "well thank you...I...just
...thank you."

"Go ahead and dig in," he chuckled proudly and I hesitated. He stood up, grabbed a piece with pepperoni on it and handed it to me. He pulled out a chair and I sat with him as we ate together.

"How long have you worked here?" I asked him and he smiled.

"Four years," he said as he watched me as if I was someone beautiful. I squirmed in my seat but then he said, "Where did you work before this?"

"I took care of my grandmother who has vascular dementia. My parents and I moved her here when it got to be too much for us. I decided to get a job here to be able to spend more time with her."

He looked at me as if I were someone amazing, "that is crazy...not only are you so caring and a great granddaughter. But the small fact your grandma and my mother both have the same exact type of Dementia."

I bit my lip and smiled, "who knows what else we might have in common."

"There is no eating in the med room," a sharp, annoying voice snapped out. I turned to see a pretty but much older Asian woman who was a med aide just like Shane. Her eyes burned with hatred towards me.

"Sorry," I said then rushed out of the room to her back to work. I didn't even get to see Shane for the rest of my shift. But throughout it, all I could think about was him.
