Derek:
My eyes fluttered open. I immediatly knew I was in a hospital, but I don't know why. Until I felt the excrutiating pain coming from my stomach. I closed my eyes and hissed. I opened my eyes and looked down and didn't need an explanation of what happened because the entire bed was covered with blood. My blood. My memory's sketchy but I remember a gang and Alex, knowing I was involved with those two things explained everything. Is Alex okay? I don't think they will leave her unharmed. I didn't want to think so I closed my eyes and drifted to sleep.
"Will he be okay?" I heard someone ask. I don't even know when I woke up. I kept my eyes closed trying to block away the pain I felt as I woke up.
"He should be," A man answered back. For a second I thought it was Alex in the room but then I heard sobs and know it wasn't Alex.
My mom walked up to my bed and took my hand in hers. I kept my eyes closed. I inhaled letting my mom know I'm alive and breathing. I smelled blood, I wasn't surprised that I could smell, but that it was so strong.
"Derek are you okay?" My mom asked rubbing her thumb into my palm. I nodded. I didn't have the energy to say anything.
"I was so worried." I wanted to reply telling her there's nothing to worry about, but I didn't. I just lay there with my eyes closed. I didn't want to do anything other than sleep. I exhaled reminding my mom that I'm still alive. For a second I thought if Alex would show up, but I dropped that thought. No way she would.
"Mom, how is Derek?" Anthony asked from outside the door.
"Come in sweety," mom replied. I heard the door open and quiet footsteps walking towards me.
"Hi Derek," said Anthony. I whispered a 'hi' not knowing if he heard it or not.
"Anthony sweety, Dereks sick now, let him sleep."
"Okay, but I wanted to let him know about Alex." I wanted to open my eyes and hear what he had to say, but I felt sleep overcoming.
"Alex?"
"Derek's friend, she was shot too." I snapped my eyes open so quickly I was dizzy for ten seconds. I sat up and groaned.
"No Derek lie down," mom commanded and lightly pushed my head on the bed. I was too tired to resist or fight, so I let my mom put my head back on the pillow. I wanted to check on Alex, and see if she's okay but I knew I couldn't, and I don't think she wants to see me.
I woke up to the doctor telling my mom all the medical shit wrong wth me, and how she should treat me when I get home. My mom nodded and wrote it down. I opened my eyes and groaned quietly.
"Are you okay Derek?" My mom whispered. I nodded and noticed Anthony playing with this toy car. "Vroom vroom," he kept on saying.
"Derek, how are you feeling? Are you dead?" Anthony asked. I laughed but stopped because of the pain. "I'm okay," I managed to say. He grinned and went back to playing with his car.
