That morning, my mom walked into my room quietly. She looked hesitant.

"May I . . . help you?" I asked suspiciously.

She took a seat on my bed.

"Around five this morning, I got a call from Hayes' dad".

"Mom, I didn't upload the picture!" I told her. She looked at me in confusion.

"What?"

"What?"

". . . "

"Isn't that . . . what we're talking about?" I asked her. She shook her head.

"What picture?"

"Never mind, continue"

"Did Hayes' brother drop you off at the house yesterday after school?" She asked. I slowly nodded my head.

"Well . . . on their way back home" she looked up at the ceiling with sorrow in her eyes. I didn't understand what was going on.

"There must've been . . . ice on the road a-and Hayes' brother-" I cut her off.

"Mom, you're scaring me" I said, fear in my eyes.

"His tire slipped on the ice, sending them in a ditch and-"

"Are they okay?" I asked, tears making their way down my cheeks.

"I don't- honey . . ." Sobs escaped me.

"Is he dead?!" I screamed.

My mom tried to comfort me, but I didn't give in. I got up off my bed and ran, ran out of the house, ran away from my home, and ran away as I possibly could to escape the pain.
