The California sun shines through my bedroom window, gently waking me up from my nap.
"Hi baby girl," I say in my raspy voice to the girl sleeping beside me. She turns over and gives me a small smile. She moves closer and kisses the crook of my neck. I pulled her in even more, as if that was possible.
"Hi Jack," she whispers. The way my name rolled off her tongue made me smile like an idiot. I absolutely love how she could make a simple name sound so beautiful.
I check the time on the rolex that sat on the night stand, next to a framed photo of me and Y/N. 5pm. "Ready for the party tonight?" I asked her. She pushes herself up using her elbow and looked around the room. "Well, almost. We should get dressed," she advises as she looked down at what she wore, which was one of my favorite tanks. She looked absolutely beautiful in it. "You're probably right. I'll race you to the shower?" I chuckle as I throw the heavy comforter off me and onto her, attempting to set her back. "JOHNSON!" she squealed as I darted toward the bathroom. She ran after me in attempt to catch up, but I got there before her.
"Took you long enough, babe," I laugh, sitting on the counter. She playfully rolls her eyes and slaps my bare chest.
"You cheated," she tries to defend herself.
"No, it was me using a smart tactic," I reply.
She shakes her head and pulls the tank off her body. She stood in front of me with nothing but her underwear on, which was going to come off in a few seconds. I stared at her as she walked over to the shower and turned the water on. She pulls down her laced underwear, slowly, knowing I loved to see her strip out of her clothing. Turning to me, she smirked. "Are you just going to sit there or are you going to join me?"
I take my bottom lip between my teeth and I take my boxers off. Y/N walks into the shower first and I follow behind her.
She turns to face me and I give her a kiss on the forehead. What I love most about our relationship is the fact that we don't need to be completely sexual even when the situation allows us to be. Like right now, I have no intentions of fucking her senseless in the shower because I'm just happy being this close to her, physically and emotionally.
After we quickly wash each other's body, we get out of the shower and make our way back to my room to get dressed. She chooses this nice white sundress and white flats, which I don't get because we're only going to a house party, but I don't argue because she looked absolutely stunning in it. Her hair is curled like she always does it and her makeup is simple. As she waited for me to get dressed, I couldn't help but get distracted at her beauty here and there. It was like there was this glow she had and it made me realize how lucky I was to have her.
I grab my watch and lock it around my wrist.
"Ready babe?" I asked. She smiled and nodded, standing up from where she sat. "You look absolutely gorgeous," I compliment her, as I pulled her in by her waist. I could see her face turning red and she gave me a kiss on the cheek. "I love you," she whispers in my ear. "I love you too."
Since Gilinsky was already at the party, I drove there on my own. Once I got there, I knocked on the door and Sam let me in. I saw my friends and Y/N saw hers.
"I'm gonna go hang with the girls, so you can hang with the boys. I'll come find you later," Y/N says right before she gives me a kiss on the cheek and headed towards her friends. I spot mine and they gesture me to come over. They hand me a red cup; I could smell a hint of alcohol, but I didn't mind. As the night continued on, I find myself missing Y/N, but she was nowhere to be found.
"Hey guys, have you seen Y/N?" I asked my group of friends.
They give me a confused look that quickly turned into a worried one. "Uh, how many drinks have you had, Johnson?" Gilinsky asked.
"Like one or two, why?" I asked, reciprocating the same amount of confusion they had. "Never mind, I'm gonna go look upstairs for her. I'll be right back," I tell them and I make my way up the stairs.
I search every room on the second floor, but she's nowhere to be found. As I stood in the last room that I searched, I start to get a worried feeling in my gut. Where the hell is she? I was about to leave to go back downstairs, but Gilinsky, Sam, and Nate walked in.
"Hey man, you okay?" Sam asked, concerned.
"Yeah I'm fine. I just can't find Y/N and I'm worried," I tell them.
They all look down as if they know something I didn't know. I take the hint. "Do you guys know where she is?" I asked again, this time, a little more forcibly.
"J, she's not here." Gilinsky said softly, sounding almost like a whisper.
"What do you mean she's not here? I came with her. What are you talking about?" I asked, sounding a little more irritated.
"N-no, you didn't bro. You came here alone," Nate tells me.
"No I didn't. Sam saw her when he let us in." All of us looked at Sam who looked terrified to answer.
"No...you were alone," he says looking down.
"He's right, babe. He didn't see me." I hear Y/N speak as she stood in the door frame.
"How is that possible?" I asked her. She didn't reply. The boys look in the direction of the door.
"Jack, who are you talking to?" Nate asked, completely horrified.
"Bro, you're starting to scare us. Are you okay?" Gilinsky says as he placed his hand on my shoulder.
"How the hell do you not see her? She's standing right there!" I yell, pointing to the door.
"There's no one there, J..." Sam whispers.
"Baby, none of them can see me..." Y/N says.
"Yo, how can you not see her?!" I fumed. I feel Y/N grab my hand to calm me down.
"She passed away in a car accident three months ago..." Nate calmly explains. "We went to her funeral. Her parents let you choose the dress she was buried in..." he adds.
"Yeah, the white sundress she always wore. You always thought she looked stunning in it," Sam clarifies.
I look at Y/N, who is staring up at me with saddened eyes. She slowly nods and I feel my heart drop to the pit of my stomach.
Flashbacks of the night of her accident flood my thoughts. The phone call I got from her mom that night telling me she died on her way to the hospital because of some idiot who decided to text and drive. The emptiness I felt when I saw her in the casket at her funeral. I could almost feel the same pain as I did when I saw the casket being lowered into the ground, knowing I'd never be able to see her again.
"Jack, I know it's hard, but you need to let me go..." Y/N tells me, her eyes looking tired as ever.
"But...I can't," I whisper. "I don't want to,"
"I'll always be with you, but I have to go," she whispers softly.
"Let me come with you," I begged.
"I can't take you with me as much as I want to, baby. It's just not your time,"
"But-" she kisses me one last time.
"I'll see you later, I promise." She says before letting go of my hand and disappearing into the hallway.
Two weeks after my hallucination at the party, my friends have been looking out for me, seeing if I was okay. I try to see her grave as much as possible. Sometimes the guys come with me to see her, which I don't mind at all.
"Ready to go to the photoshoot?" Gilinsky asks as I finished talking to Y/N.
"Yeah, let's go," I tell him as I stood up from the grassy area.
He walks towards the car and I stay back for a few more seconds. "I'll see you later, I promise." I repeat the words she said to me. I smile to myself, somehow feeling her presence, and I head back to the car.
