"Happy 21st birthday, Swazz!" I yelled out as he walked down the stairs, still trying to wake up from his sleep. I see him jump as he got cut off guard from my greeting.

"Jesus, I knew it was a bad idea to have you stay with me this summer." He grumbles as he rubs the sleep from his eyes.

"Well, mom and dad did say that if they got you an apartment in California, then I could stay during the summer." I reminded him of what his and our parents agreement was if he moved out of Omaha. "They even said I could possibly move here with you..." I teased and he gave me the middle finger, but a smile still played on his lips.

"Not a chance. If you want to move here, find your own place or someone else to stay with." He says as he grabbed the Orange Juice carton from the fridge and drank straight out of it. "So what'd you make for your brother's 21st birthday?" He smirked as he set the carton on the breakfast bar in front of me.

"Nothing. We're going out for breakfast. My treat." I cheered and he went along with it. "Hurry and get dressed, I'm starving." I rushed him and watched him disappear up the stairs.

Once he got dressed, I grabbed the car keys and my wallet, then we headed to a diner near by. We were seated by one of the workers and John orders the most expensive things on the menu. Typical.

"Really? You had to order all of that?" I asked after the waitress took our order and left us alone.

"Hey, you shouldn't have said it was your treat." He laughed as he started clicking away on his phone. I roll my eyes and waited until our food arrived. As we ate and talked, I got a message from one of my brother's friends, Sam, who was planning a surprise party for him. Sam was the only friend of John's that I was familiar with because he was the only friend John introduced me to before I had the opportunity to study abroad for three years of high school. His other friends, whom I've never met before, were also helping out.

The plan was to keep John busy as the boys set up the party in his apartment, which I didn't mind at all. John and I were pretty close, being that we were only two years apart, which made it easier for me to drag him around because he knew he'd rather have that than leave me to explore LA by myself. He's definitely more protective than he'll admit.

"So, dad transferred money into my account just to take you out for the day, so hurry because I want to go shopping." I told him as he took a bite of his pancakes.

He looked at his watch for the time and once he realized it was already 10 am, he just nodded his head. I finished my food before him and patiently waited for him to finally be done.

"By the way, my friends invited me to hang out tonight at Nate and Sam's place, so are you going to be okay by yourself?" He asked as he interlocks his fingers together and leans forward into the table.

"I'll be fine, as long as I get to hang with you during the day, they can have you for the night." I smiled sweetly and he shakes his head, still smiling. "Oh come on, you know you missed me and you're stoked to be hanging out with your little sister," I teased, causing John to let out a small laugh.

"Alright, alright, fine. You win, now let's go. I'm not letting dad's money go to waste." He chuckles and I leave money for our breakfast.

As the day was coming to an end, Sam finally texted me telling me they were ready. John and I headed home and when we walked into his apartment, he was definitely surprised.

"Wait, did you know about this?" He asked me, a huge smile plastered across his face.

"Well duh, who else was supposed to keep you busy all day? You don't have a girlfriend, so your friends thought I was the next best thing." I giggled as he pulls me into a side hug.
