Chapter 31

Raelynn's POV ~
So there i was sitting on the curb after school all alone not knowing where Dylan was and waiting for my brother. I had my headphones in with the music as loud as i could stand it like always, my mom says im gonna ruin my hearing because i listen to my music to loud but music is my escape and when i have my headphones in i want the world out and the music being the only thing coming in. I was drawing random shapes and then wiping them away with my feet in a pile of sand/soil in the parking lot when Kaden pulled up. He rolled the window down as i got up off the curb, he said something but i couldnt hear him. I got in the car and closed the door.

"What did you say i couldnt hear you." I said rather loudly turning down my music

"It wasn't a car accident." Kaden said oddly.

"Okay.... So what was it?" I questioned, then the news reporter from the radio came back on and Kaden turned it up to hear it.

"Police got a phone call at 12:55pm from a distraught woman who said she had hit a teenage boy crossing the street. She said she didnt see him start to walk out into the street and when she saw him she slammed on her breaks trying not to him the boy, she claims her vehicle did not stop in time and hit the teenager. When cops arrived at the scene of the accident they reported the student was not conscious but was breathing, he was in critical condition, he was rushed to Community Hospital. Police reported he was wearing his school ID. As result of him being a minor the only information we can release is that he is a Junior at Beacon Hills HighSchool. As of now the teenager is still in critical condition but it stabilized. More news will be reported as we get it in, Back to you Jim." The news report spoke. My heart dropped, and tears filled my eyes. I was sure something had happened to Dylan i didnt know what to do all i could do was cry. Dylan didnt always have a last period class because if he didnt have a lab he would wait around for me last period so technically he could go home early some days but he waits for me. But he did walk around outside during that period sometimes, so i just lost it. I was hysterical.
"Raelynn.... Calm down everything is fine. Im sure Dylan's fine im sure its not him. Someone would have called you by now so you would know." Kaden said trying to be convincing but i dont think he was even sure he was right. I tried to calm down.

"Can we please go home so we can figure out whats going on?" I begged. Kaden didnt say a word he just started driving home.

Dylan's POV ~
So i got detention in lab today. I had my phone out and my teacher took it and gave me detention. Okay maybe thats not the whole story. This is what happened.

"O'Brien first warning phone away." Mr. H snapped.

"Okay..."

"Was that an attitude O'Brien?"

"No!"

"Keep it up and you have detention"

"Detention for what?!? i didnt do anything, and Jake over here isnt even awake and your gonna give me detention!" I snapped back. Mr. H hated me from the beginning of the year and i dont know why but the feeling was mutual.

"That's it O'Brien detention after class, right here till 3"

"What are you crazy?"

"Want another one?" He questioned, i went to answer. "I suggest if you dont want another one i would keep your mouth shut and bring me your phone you can have it after detention."
I shut my mouth and brought my phone up to him and gave it to him. I never got a chance to text Raelynn so she didnt know i had detention, i felt bad because i didnt want her to wait for me but i had no way to tell her. Now its around 2:15/2:30ish and im sitting here watching the big hand on the clock slowly tick away my time in detention. At 2:30 my principal came in the room to talk to Mr. H, i guess he didnt notice i was there because he talked openly to Mr. H about something important.

"Mr. Harris, you know your student John Carter, Well he is in the hospital. He has a study hall last period and he left early and was crossing the street and was hit by a car. He is in intensive care, in a stable but critical condition. I was informed from his mother to tell his teachers, they're not sure whats gonna happen with his condition but they will keep us posted and its all over the news." My principal spoke sadly.

"Okay well please send my luck to John and his family and please keep me posted on his condition" Mr. Harris spoke. The principal turned around and saw me, i was shocked and the first thing i thought was that if Raelynn found out and didnt know it was John she would think it was me. I needed to get to Rae now.

"O'Brien why are you here? your a good kid. Mr. Harris im sure whatever Dylan did wasnt bad let him off i know he knows John. Im sorry son i hope your friend will be okay." The principal spoke to me.

"Thank you" i said.

"Here O'Brien" he handed me my phone and ran out the class. I had a bunch of texts from Raelynn. I decided to just go right to her house figuring she was home by now, i didnt want to text her because that would involve a phone call and a big mess so i'll just wait. I pulled in their driveway and the front door was open but the screen door was closed, i hopped out of the car and ran over to the door and in the house.

When i walked in Raelynn was sitting on the couch in Kaden's lap crying, this proved she didnt know who it was. They both looked up when i walked in the door.
Raelynn got up off of Kaden and ran over to me and grabbed me tightly as she cried into my shirt.
"I thought it was you, i thought something happened to you Dyl" she cried.

"Im sorry you were so worried Rae-bug, Harris took my phone and gave me detention. I had no way to tell you." I had my arms wrapped around her and rubbed her back trying to comfort her, i picked her up and went over to the couch and sat and put her on my lap. She was still crying.
"Shh.... Raelynn its okay im fine" i whispered trying to calm her.
She picked her head up off my chest and pressed her lips into mine. Then she pulled away and buried her head in my neck.

"I thought it was you Dylan, i thought i was gonna lose you" she was starting to calm down.

"Its okay im fine, you wont lose me i promise." I reassured her.

"I'll give you two a minute." Kaden said as he got up and walked out of the room.
We sat there in each others arms for a couple minutes and we both relaxed a little and then i told her about John.

"The kid who got hit was John, ya know Carter, Maddie's brother. The principal told Harris and i was there. I know we dont like her but hes nice and never did anything to us and he still is a friend of ours, i think we should go see how bad he is because he said they dont know how his condition will change."

"Oh my god" is all she said.

Raelynn's POV ~
I was so happy when i saw Dylan. I really thought it was him and i that was gonna lose him. I do agree that we should see if John is okay.

"Okay, we'll head over in a little bit, im still shaking from worrying"

"Okay Rae." Dylan spoke softly.
Just then there was a knock at my door. I got up and answered it and it wasnt who i was expecting.
