Lauren and I met Stacy and Rico on the highway as we made our way to the southside.
"I wonder why she wanted to meet on this side of town. Yall have any people who live over here?" Lauren asked.
"Not that I know of." I responded.
We kept driving until we reached our exit. It took us about twenty minutes to find the place.
When we pulled up in the parking lot and noticed it was a building instead of a home, we looked at Stacy and Rico in the car as they parked beside us and they looked at us. Stacy humped her shoulders.
We cut the engines off and got out.
"I dont know what in the world moms got up her sleeve today." Stacy said.
We walked up to the front of the building and went in.
We looked around inside the old abandon building. The walls were covered with bright green vines and graphiti. All the windows were borded up except the ones at the very top. We walked on down the hall and into a room with a spiral staircase. I began to call my mother's name repeatedly as I stepped over the tree leaves and vines on the floor.
We heard the creaking of the stairs as we turned around and saw the tip of her shoes coming down.
"Are you crazy woman? You dont know how old them stairs are." I said as I met her at the bottom, grabbing her hand to help her down.
"Actually Evan, I do. They aint that old baby." She responded as she rubbed the railing of the stairs.
"Why did you want us to meet here?" Stacy asked.
"Well.. after everything that happened yesterday, I felt like we needed to make some things happen."
"What do you mean?" Lauren asked.
"Follow me." She said motioning for us to walk up the stairs as she led the way.
"You want us to go up there?" Stacy asked concerned.
"C'mon child. If these thangs were going to cave in they wouldve done it by now. I done walked up these stairs about five times back and forth."
We all looked at eachother before we decided to go ahead and follow her.
"So how did you get into this place?" Rico questioned.
"I have a key."
"A key?" Stacy repeated.
"Yes. We'll get to all that later." She said.
We walked up the stairs behind her. She led the way as we made it to the top and into a room that was once a library. The shelves were filled with books covered in dust, huge spider webs and vines.
We looked around the room at the dusty web filled tables and chairs.
"Sit down." She said.
"I'll pass." Stacy responded.
"Yeah, me too." Lauren agreed.
"Yall really scared of some damn spider webs?" Rico said dusting off the chairs for them.
Stacy sat down in the chair.
"I still dont trust it. I bet there's a big ass spider somewhere to go with that big ass web. Uh uh.. no ma'am, no sir, no ham, no turkey." Lauren said.
I sat down and she took a seat in my lap.
"Listen ya'll.. Let me start off by saying that I'm still highly pissed at you four but.." She began. " That can wait. Yesterday, when I left your house with Teresa following behind me, We drove pass this ole jet black monte carlo. They were backed up between the alley way of these two houses as we drove up the street."
