The three of us walked in and approached the desk.
"We're looking for Evan Tanning. He was brought in by officer Nixon." I said to the officer at the desk.
She flipped through some papers before she answered.
"He's in questioning." She reponded.
"Questioning for what?" I responded.
"I can't give out that information ma'am."
"Oh you finna give me some kind of damn information for why he is being held in here!" I yelled at the officer while beating on the counter.
Stacy stepped in front of me to take over before things got out of hand.
"Look ma'am, I am the sister of Evan Tanning and we just want to know what is going on." Stacy explained.
"Like I said to the other lady, I cannot give out that information."
"But we are kin, relatives, my brother. Its not like I'm a damn stranger. When he was locked up I came here all the time to see him. Yall should remember my damn face."
As Stacy was talking, the door from behind the desk came open and officer Nixon walked out.
"Thats the officer that brought him in. Aye, Sir,." I called to the man.
He walked up to the desk.
"Can I help you."
"Uh yeah. You took in an Evan Tanning just a few minutes ago, can you tell us why you have him."
"And you are?"
"His fiancé." I responded.
"Mr. Tanning is being questioned about an event that happened a few months back.. I cant give you all the details here ma'am."
"How long is he going to be here?" Rico asked.
"Depends on if he's a suspect or not."
"When will we get to see him?" Stacy questioned also.
"It could take awhile but youre welcome to wait." The officer responded before walking away.
We thought for a minute.
"I'm going to wait." I said to the both of them.
"You sure Lauren? It could take hours."
"Yes.. Im sure."
"Okay." Stacy said.
We all sat there in the station falling in and out of sleep, and pacing the floors back and forth. Four hours passed and we were still there. The sun had found its resting place and the moon was beginning to find its place in the sky.
Rico and Stacy were asleep in the waiting chairs as I paced the floor. My mind just couldnt figure out what in the world Evan could have done to have the police on his tail. Half of me wanted to beileve that it was OG and Dro's doing. I mean the officer did say it had to do with an event a few months back. They could have set him up.
As I was thinking the doors from behind us opened and a officer walked through with Evan behind him. I ran up to him.
"How long yall been here?" He asked looking at a passed out Stacy and Rico.
"Since they brought you in." I responded.
He looked up and checked the clock.. 12:59.
"Are you done?" I asked him, praying the answer is yes.
"Yeah. Lets go."
We walked over and shook Rico and Stacy awake and walked out the station to our cars.
"So whats the move, yall?" Stacy asked while rubing her eyes.
"I mean.. we can't sleep at our house, obviously so I guess we're gonna have to get a hotel." I explained.
"You sure? My door is always open." Stacy offered.
"Yeah.. you and Rico can have your spot. We'll be fine." I assured her.
"Okay. Call me when you guys check in."
"Alright."
We hugged eachother and Evan and Rico said their see you laters before we all got in our seperate cars and left.
We decided to stay at the Manhattan for a few nights until we figured out a plan.
The drive to the hotel was a quiet one. We didn't exchange any words as we pulled up in the parking lot and went in to pay for our room. The desk clerk handed us our keys, we went back to the car to grab the bags I packed and went up to the room.
As we got settled in, I figured the silence game had gone on long enough and somebody needed to be talking at this point.
"So what was all of that?" I began.
"What?" He asked as he layed across the bed with hands behind his head looking up at the ceiling.
"The whole police station shit, why did they come for you Evan."
He paused.
"Evan?"
"They said it had some to do with the shit that went down at the warehouse with Dro.."
"And.."
"And somebody mentioned my name."
"Somebody like who Evan?"
"Somebody like one of Dro's people that got caught."
"Did they say that?" I asked sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Nah. They aint have to. I know it was one of 'em."
"Evan.. thats a.."
"Look Lauren, you probably aint gone believe me but I know what the fuck I'm talking about."
"I never said I didnt believe you Evan. I was just saying thats a big assumption."
"Who else could it be huh? We were the only mutherfuckers in that place besides that crooked ass cop and his people."
"It could have been Cedric, you never know."
"Nah. It wasnt him. No matter how many times you try to turn me away from it Lauren, the truth is, what it is. ya feel me?"
I was silent.
"When I left the place that night, I wasnt the only one who got away.. but I tell you what.. I'm gone find out who said what and when I do.. it aint gone be sweet." He said as he rose up off the bed and went into the bathroom.
I sat in my same position with my head in my hands.
"You really think its that serious Evan?" I yelled to him from the room.
He walked out.
"You think I'm finna let a nigga play me pussy?"
"And what Evan? You end up murdering them and going back to prison?"
He was silent.
"If that's your plan Evan, then I dont want no parts of it. I aint got time to be in and out of jail visiting you after you get a life sentence! I thought you learned from the last time Evan. You go and pull a stunt like that and you'll never see the light of day again! I dont wanna be a fiancé forever but if you end up in jail thats exactly whats gone happen! Our life as husband and wife will never began. And lets not get me started on death.."
He sat down on the bed.
"Look Low, I feel you but I'm a man. We dont let shit like that ride."
"Did you hear anything that I just said?" I asked him looking upon his face.
"I did hear you.."
He kissed my cheek lightly.
"But this shit gotta be handled."
I got up from the bed and went into the bathroom to take a shower. I was done with this conversation for now but believe me it will be discussed again.
