"Chase Thomas!" I heard Franca's voice radiate throughout the office. I felt my head shrink into my shoulders as his name radiated through me. "Platinum everyone!" Franca flaunted as she held up a sheet of paper "He is our little gold mine! I want you all to remember this moment! Our hard work has been noticed! We will celebrate this afternoon with Champers!" she let out a lively chirp as she sung in happiness.
I hadn't heard from, nor seen Chase in such a long time, I'd hoped to have forgotten him all together. The days after our morning at his home filled me with questions and a longing to see him again. I could have sworn that he had given me hints that he cared about me. The long, deep looks he gave as he stared into my eyes, his face lighting up as we spoke or when I walked into the room. Eventually I realized that was all part of his charm - the reason he was such a heart throb and had millions of women falling at his feet. I was stupid to think that he would give me a second glance. The days turned into weeks and soon enough, the weeks turned into months. I'd used every inch of my energy to rip any thought of Chase from my mind. . . Now I have Franca to thank for sling-shotting him back into my brain - front and center.
"Did you hear about Chase and Scarlett?" Bernadette energetically oozed to Liam, another member of staff, leaning from her desk, closer to his. "Oh em gee!" Liam replied "Yes! They are sooo adorable!".
Immediately every hair stood up on the back of my neck as I eavesdropped on their conversation, wondering what they were talking about. "I know! They will make the cutest children!" giggled Bernadette "The minute Google Alert went off, I looked at the article and knew they would live happily ever after!".
I watched as Liam and Bernadette gushed as they discussed the contents of Bernadette's phone. The anticipation was killing me. "What's that?" I asked them, unable to contain my curiosity any longer.
"Look!" said Bernadette as she turned her phone in my direction "Aren't they the cutest?" she gushed.
As I studied the article that headlined "Scarlett & Chase arrive TOGETHER on the red carpet", I immediately felt ill. A photo of Chase with his arm around the radiant beauty that was Scarlett Simms accompanied the article.
"Wow" I expressed, handing Bernadette back her phone. "They do make a beautiful couple" I said, trying to hide my immediate discomfort.
"Don't they just?" Bernadette cooed, turning her attention to her phone once more. "I'm so jealous" laughed Liam "She's such a lucky Bitch" his face pouting before they both laughed again. I gave a small, fake laugh as I nodded my head before leaving my desk to hide in the office restroom.
My hands shook as I ran the cold water over them, patting my face as I tried to erase the feeling of being sick from my body. "Get it together woman" I hissed at myself in the mirror.
Unable to control myself, I took out my phone. Searching 'google alerts', I added Chase Thomas to my profile.
Immediately, my phone started buzzing with content.
"Chase Thomas and Scarlett Simms seen exiting the AMA's after party together" ...
"Scarlett Sims 'walk of shame' from a hotel room she shared with Chase Thomas" ...
"Wedding bells for Chase & Scarlett?" ..
I quickly deleted all notifications "Shut up!" I threw my phone down on the basin. "Stupid thing!". Now uncontrollably shaking, I picked up my phone again and dialed Mia.
"My American Girl!" answered Mia with a huge smile
"I'm so happy to hear your voice" I smiled "Did you hear who has found himself a girlfriend?" I asked, hoping she hadn't so that we could share in the shock together
