January 28. 8:00pm
Anya:
I screamed and Jace jumped and pulled my close to him. I took out my phone and shined the light around. “The power went out…” Jace mumbled. I wrapped a blanket around my shoulders and walked over to the window. I pushed the curtain aside and saw a blizzard.
“Well fuck.” I said to myself. The front door burst open and I whipped around to look at it. Sam, Vinnie, Luke, Wes, Eric, and Nathan, all burst through the door. I trotted over and shut it. I did the dead bolt and turned to face them. “How did ya’ll get here?” I asked.
“We were down the street at Vinnie’s.” Luke said.
Nathan turned me towards him abruptly. “What the hell happened to you?” He roared. “Did Jace do this? I swear to god I’ll kick his-”
Nathan’s brother cut him off. “I didn’t do shit to Anya. Do you honestly think I would hurt her?” He growled back. I was standing in between the two and the tension was thick.
“Well!” I said breaking the silence, “Jace, come help me find candles?”
I took Jace’s hand and lead him into the garage. He got the box off the shelf and I sat on the hood of Joe’s car. “So why are you and Nathan always fighting?” I asked nonchalantly.
He sighed and sat next to me. “You really want to know?” He asked. I nodded in response. Jace exhaled slowly. “A couple years ago, I went out with Nathan’s best friend, Marci. We went out for a while and we decided to… become more intimate, and I got her pregnant.”
“That doesn’t seem so bad…”
“She was ashamed to carry my child.” He continued on. “She… She didn’t want to abort it either. So she… hung herself.” The last part was barely a whisper. He burst into sobs and I pulled him into a tight hug. “It’s all my fault.” He cried.
He burst into sobs and I pulled him into a tight hug. “It’s all my fault.” He cried.
I rubbed his back soothingly. “Shh… Don’t you ever say that. It’s not your fault.”
He pulled away from the hug. “You probably think I’m a cold, ruthless jerk.” He mumbled.
I shook my head and smiled. “I don’t think of you any differently than I did before.” I hopped off the trunk off the car and walked over to the passenger door. I opened it and dug through the glove compartment. I found a pack of Kleenex and tossed it to him. “Clean up and let’s get these candles inside, yeah?” he smiled back at me.
“Sounds good.”
~*~*~*~*~
Nathan, Vinnie and I hooked up the generator so we were now all squished on my couch watching Ghost Adventures. “ZAK BAGANS IS SO HOT!” Sam and I exclaimed in unison. Everyone burst out laughing and I smiled. I looked at the scene before me. A while ago, I was sitting cold and violated in an alley. Now I had all these wonderful friends. I loved my life.
I went into the kitchen and grabbed a bunch of sodas. I tossed them around the room and stretched out across Vinnie, Nathan, Jace, and Sam’s laps. “GRRRRAAAAAHHHHH!!!” I groaned stretching. The guys chuckled and I ran into the hallway and grabbed a deck of cards. “Oh my god we are so playing cards!” I squealed. I proceeded to sit on the floor and I looked at the guys. “Circle. NOW!” I demanded.
“Alright Supreme Ruler of the Underworld.” Vinnie muttered.
“You can bet your ass I’m the Supreme Ruler of the Underworld!” I said as they all sat in a circle around me. “We’re playing Blackjack,” I grinned.
