Chapter 2

The next time I saw Slappy was in June, my mum and dad had decided to take me and my little sister Bella to the show. "I remember going to that show, you were only 7 years old at the time" Mum had said at lunch. "Really? I don't remember going" I said looking at her puzzled. "I lost my engagement ring when we went" she frowned. "Strange, I still don't know how I lost it." She looked down at the ground, I could of almost sworn i saw mum eyes get watery, but i think it was just my imagination. "If you lost it, then why didn't you just go back to the show and go look for it?" I asked her. I was only curious. She smiled, then she shut her eyes as if she was remembering it.

"We we're in the car when I realised I lost it, your father said we could go back, but I told him not to because you were asleep and I didn't want to wake you." She opened her eyes, then she looked at me. There was a silence between us. "Lucy, can you go get Bella for me, we're going now" she finally said. I nodded, then I left the kitchen and went into Bella's room.

Bella was in there of course, she was having one of her tea parties with her dolls, I could see in one of the chairs was Anna, my old doll.

Strange, I don't remember giving Anna to Bella. Mum said I left Anna in the attic one time and I forgot about her, until Bella's birthday came and mum found Anna in the attic a few days before and gave her to Bella as a birthday present, I was only 11.

She carries that doll everywhere in the house, she kept saying that's what Anna told her what to do, I found it strange, but I went along with it. Bella has got brown, hazel eyes, just like my mums and mine, she has dark brown curled hair that touched her shoulders.

"Hey Bella, were going now" I called out from the doorway. She looked up at me, she looked a little surprised but it faded away.

"Can you help me clean up first?" She asked sweetly. I smiled. "Ok" I began taking the cups from the table and putting them away in the cabinet not to far away,the cups were bright pink. I could see Bella putting some of her toys on her bed. She left Anna at the table. "Do you think mum would let me bring Anna?" She asked after we had finished. "I don't know" I said without thinking.

She smiled. "I'll go ask her." She ran out the room quickly, I followed her, I found her in the kitchen with mum, I could see a big smile come across her face. "Mum says she can come!" She ran out of the kitchen, back into her room. She came back, in her arms was Anna.

"Alright girls, let's go" mum said smiling. We all got into the car, I had to sit at the back, mum didn't like me sitting in the passenger seat next to her, she thinks it's too dangerous, even though I am 16.

I turned my head, I could see Bella, putting Anna on her lap, she pulled her up close to her ear, as if she was saying something to her. "Mum, Anna asks what the show is going to be about" she asked, pulling Anna away.

Mum didn't look at her, she kept her eyes on the road, Yet somehow I could see a smile come across her face. "It's a ventriloquist dummy, you know what they are do you?" "Yeah, of course I know" she said quickly.

The rest of the ride was silent. Sometimes, I like it when the car is silent, it helps me relax a bit, some people think that it is weird but I don't mind.

The place was packed with people, it was like being at a zoo or something, you could see thousands of kids and their parents heading into the show. "Mum, can you hold Anna for me?" Bella asked as we entered the theater.

"Ok sweetie" mum said smiling. she picked up Anna from Bella's hands and went to the ticket booth, I stayed with Bella until mum came back.
