~Chapter One: Expulsion

"Now Sir, whenever am I going to use this shit in my adulthood??" I bluntly ask while gesturing to the whiteboard, my eyes focused on my History teacher.

"I don't know Jesse but its general knowledge so it may help-"

"What the fuck!? How can knowing about American settlement help in later life??" I abruptly ask, cutting off Mr.

"Well if this stuff isn't relevant to you Jesse, than just leave and go to the deans or counsellor." Mr says with a sigh. Well there is no way in hell that I am going to the deans.

The whole class watches me as I stand up from my seat. Sauntering out of the class, I salute cheekily to the class and try to leave the school grounds.

Walking out of the school gates, a police car pulls to a stop so I turn around and walk to the office to sign out. I am not going to get caught by the cops. That is hell for me to go through, even more than I deserve personally.

The shrill scream of the bell for Period Two rings in my ears. Screwing my eyes shut and cringing at the sound, I guess I can go to Period Two, it should be interesting considering I've got English- my worst subject. Lets see how long it takes for me to get kicked out.

••10 Minutes Later••

"GET OUT YOU MENACE!! GET OUT OF MY CLASSROOM AND GO STRAIGHT TO THE PRINCIPAL!!!!" Miss Gavey, my English teacher, roars. Woah okay, somebody definitely shit the bed this morning.

I guess I should explain what just happened.

So, I was playing with my lighter, as usual, and Miss gave me my work for the class. I didn't want to do it so, I set the page of work on fire. Literally. And somehow the desk caught fire as well so a pile of ashes and a partially burned desk later, here I am waiting outside the principal's office.

My phone vibrates in my pocket as Mr Ward steps out into the foyer. It's probably Sam.

"Jesse." He says gruffly. He's a grumpy shit of a principal. I was suspended last week for hitting my P.E teacher but she insulted me so, what do you expect?!

He leaves the door wide open and I close it behind me as the fat arsehole takes a seat behind his wooden desk. What a fucking poufter.

"I've had enough of your behaviour Jesse. It needs to stop. You are not setting a good example for yourself and are not setting up a good adult life. You are an embarrassment to this school. So I have decided that you shall be expelled instead of being suspended, again." He states.

"So you're saying that I'm being expelled because I'm an embarrassment to the school? You've got to be fucking joking me." I mutter.

"That's enough of your language Miss. You are not being expelled because you're an embarrassment, you are being expelled because you destroyed school property." He finishes.

"Okay. Whatever motherfucker." I say as I exit the office. "AT LEAST I GET OUT OF THIS HELL HOLE!!!!!" I scream before exiting the administrating office.

Pulling the finger, twice, I walk out of school and see the year nines watching me with disgust. "What are you looking at faggots??" I ask as I walk past.

Flicking my lighter and using the flame to burn my cigarette, I strut out of the school. Finally, I'm free.

•••

"Mum, I'm home!!" I sing as I open the front door.

My Mum works from home, so I'm never alone; she doesn't trust me!!

My dad died after I was born, so I've been raised to be independent and original. I don't need a man in my life.

"You're home early." Mum comments as she joins me in the kitchen.

"Yeah, I got expelled." I explain proudly.

"What did you do this time??"

"Partially burnt a desk." I inform as I empty my glass of water into the sink.

She huffs and then leaves the kitchen. I hear her fingertips hitting the buttons on the house phone. Oh god this isn't good.

"Gina!!" Oh god no, no, no!!

Gina Brooks. My Mum's only sister and her best friend.

"How are you??" She asks, her voice floating out towards me. Silence follows Mum's question as Aunty Gina replies.

"Yeah, I've been good. You wouldn't believe what I found out today." Mum says, her voice growing faint as she climbs the stairs and locks herself in her bedroom.

-Later That Day-

"Jesse. Dinner." Mum calls flatly while placing two plates on the table. Oh god, I am in trouble.

If there's anyone I'm scared of, its my Mother; especially when she is angry.

"Sit." She instructs. An emotion is burning in her blue eyes that I can't decipher.

"Why?" She asks while nibbling at her pasta bake.

"What do you mean??' I ask, my voice coming out like a whimper.

Placing her fork down on the table, the metal rings throughout the quiet room.

"Don't play dumb. Why did you burn the desk??"

"I don't know. I just don't know." I answer truthfully.

"Well, I've had enough of the suspension and expulsion. So, I have decided that you are to go and stay with Gina and your cousins for six months. If that doesn't turn your behaviour around, I don't know what will." Mum finishes. By know my jaw has dropped to the table, particularly into my food. Not literally.

"Do I get a say in any of this??" I choke.

"No. You leave on Wednesday, so you better start packing. I have enrolled you at Penola Catholic College. You start Thursday."

"So you're sending me to a school full of prudes who preach to the man above? You've got to be fucking kidding me." I say as I rinse my dishes off and place them in the dishwasher.

"They're not prudes and they don't preach to God. Give it a chance. Gina will pick you up at Twelve on Wednesday." And with that the conversation is over. If I bring it up, Mum will shut down and won't speak.

Wednesday couldn't come any quicker.

Note the sarcasm.
