CHAPTER EIGHT
STEPPING OUT OF THE STYX I could already feel tension. He told me it would come quickly, but he didn’t tell me which it. My pets still weren’t here, they were still passing through the river. For now I was on my own, the quiet only seemed to get louder. Anything could come my way and if I’m not prepared I could possibly die. This would be a rather chilling thought if it was a regular day, but having Persephone on my mind is enough to keep me from worrying. Taking out my sword I marched forward. This is going to be fun.
While swinging my sword back and forth I started to whistle, it was to signal that I was ready. I kept my head held up high and I walked with determination. The road was still quiet nothing seemed to want to come out, it was trying to break me down with fear, fear of the unknown. The forest knew exactly how to destroy someone, killing was a game to it. Oh, how it hated to lose.
This forest however liked to play with me the most, it despised me. Whenever I would come in here as a kid it would throw random obstacles in my way. At the time I would think of it as a game as well, a harmless game, but the forest played to kill. Most of the time I would be able to defeat anything in my way, a few time my pets would help. It knew I would always win, for that reason it always gave me the most difficult obstacles.
Suspense is rather different when you're the one being targeted. The feeling is what kills you first, it makes your heart pound, the sound is almost that of a ball being thrown to a wall. The sound starts off slow. First blow. Pause. Second blow. Pause. Third blow. Then it starts to race, your heart won't stop pounding. Firth blow, second blow, third blow, no pause. Your stomach also starts to turn and you’ll find yourself wanting to throw up.
I stop swinging my sword and instead drag it making a trail being me. The sound of the metal digging into the dirt is all that is being heard in the forest. My steps are gentle and my breathing is even. I start to walk slower, it was here.
First I heard its footsteps they were soft yet harsh. Then I see it, it was white. His body had four red lines two lines on each side of him, and each of his ankles had one as well. His eyes were red, blood red. Its body was slim and his height was unlike anything I’ve ever seen, he was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
A Teumessian Fox.
