CHAPTER SIXTEENIT WAS COVERED in gold. The town was a gold speck in the white snow. All the houses were covered in a blanket of gold and red roses. The sidewalk was white–it was a white carpet. A wedding was taking place today.
There were guards at the end of each house leading up to the castle, they knew I was arriving. My foot steps were they only things that could be heard in the first section of the town. Although they were being quite I could sense the uneasiness of my pets. I've never deprived them of doing what they pleased, but we had to be cautious here.
Once I reached the third row of houses their bows lifted and the marching began. They came from every possible side of the town. This battle however was not mine to fight. My pets were growing more impatient because i didn't allow the to fight in the first battle, they were now beginning to growl. "Stand down, Hades! It's over."
These words were really starting to aggravate me, do they not know who I am? The person behind the voice stepped out of the alley he was hiding in. His arrow was pointed at me and he was slowly walking towards my direction. "Stand down." Again with those words.
"Or else what? Are you going to kill me?" The small smile I had turned into a grin and his eyes became even more furious. "There's 300 of us and only one of you, of course we'll kill you!" The captains voice was full of affirmation–he sincerely believes they'll be victorious.
"Please don't ignore my pets, you'll offend them. Besides they'll be your opponents today." It spiraled into my direction–the arrow–but before it could hit me my fox stepped in the way. "Good boy."
"Well it was nice meeting you, captain. I'm afraid I can't stay any longer, I have more important things to do." I knelt down to look at my pets and gave them permission to attack. One small nod of the head was all that was needed for them to charge.
I began to walk down the white carpet again letting the blood that was on my hands drip onto it. Their screams were ear-piercing and they filled me with exultation. As I grew further from the battle the scream became faint and soon they faded.
The doors of the castle had carvings of gods, roses and the ocean. Persephone must have designed it. My hand reached out to touch the knob and before I could turn it someone jumped off the roof and stood behind me. "Do you really think you could win the game, Hades?" She scoffed and chuckled, I suppose she doesn't know much about me either.
"Of course. Do you actually think I'd allow myself to lose?" My eyes grew cold and my grin became menacing. I took out my sword and turned around to face the women.
Her eyes were green, her skin tan, and her hair raven black. She had two swords in her hands, both pointed at the ground, she was beautiful. A dark purple colored cape was wrapped around her body and I then knew what rank she was in.
"Let's get this over with, shall we?" Her confidence was quite annoying, I couldn't wait to ruin it. "Let's."
Our swords collided, her second sword almost striking me. She was quick with her hands but her feet were falling behind. I kept changing my place, moving anywhere and anywhere to slow her slow her down. The ice was making it difficult for both of us to hit one another. She was the first to lose balance and that was when I was able to take control. I cut through her cape and jabbed at her stomach, she then let go of one of her swords.
After this she fell to the floor, her head colliding with the ground first. Another hit to the stomach was sent her way and I then quickly picked up the sword she dropped. Before I was fully standing up straight I felt a pain in my face, blood was running down my right cheek. She stood up swiftly and aimed for my neck. I blocked the hit with my sword and aimed at her with the other. Her arm and her stomach was spilling blood, her coat was becoming soaked with the blood.
She became occupied with the pain and I took this time to grab her by the neck. My hands reached for her sword but before I could get a hold of it she kneed me in the groin. The pain was excruciating and I let go of her neck. Her sword came into contact with my shoulder and my thigh. Then her fist touched my right cheek, but before she could keep going I grabbed her arm and twisted behind her back. My sword cut the back of her knees, I then kicked the new wounds and she fell to the ground once again.
Her face was making contact with the ground and my foot was making digging into her back. I grabbed her hair and picked her head up, i then slammed it back down. She was screaming and I couldn't help but do it again. And again. And again, and again, and again. The white floor was now crimson red, it became tainted. I picked up my sword and pointed it at the nape of her neck. It only took one quick push and her body became limp.
I took the sword out of her neck and picked up the other two. Once again I made my way towards the castles door, only this time I was able to turn the knob without any interruptions. When I stepped inside I saw two pietàs, one on each side of the courtyard. Everyone's eyes were looking at me, some filled with horror, some with curiosity, and others with trepidation.
The swords that were on my sides were now in my hands, both covered in blood, pointed at the white floor. My head looked foreword and my eyes met ones filled with rage. Although she had the softest brown eyes she never failed to give off the most blood-curdling look. I gave her a small smile and looked at the people around me.
"I'm sorry I'm late."
