As we reach the field, the match was currently at half time and all the members were at the side benches. Marcus was still holding my hand as we made our way there.
"Marc, I told you to back of-" Tanner said as he spotted Marcus and I but stopped after seeing the expression on Marcus's face.
"What happened?" He continued, standing in front of Marcus.
As Marcus released me from his grip, he pulled Tanner to the side, whispering something I didn't bother to even try hearing. Instead, thoughts of what Marcus said drifted into my mind. What does Marcus mean by its better not to know?
Before I could even comprehend what was happening, Tanner pushed me onto one of the seats in the side bench and told me to stay put as he walked off somewhere. I snapped myself back into reality as I quickly followed after him.
"Tann! Come back!"
Silence. He was walking faster and faster.
"Stop!" I shouted as I ran up to him and grabbed him by the arm.
When he turned around, his normally light grey eyes were dark, filled with hatred and anger.
"Let go," he said, clenching his teeth. "I need to knock some sense into that shallow mind of his." He was definitely referring to Steve.
"Tanner, I don't know what has gotten into you, but you gotta calm down. You still have an ongoing match, you can't go off like this."
Silence again.
"Tanner Zack. This is your last game with them. You said you wanted them to have fun right? If you weren't there what fun would there be? You're their Captain. Don't ditch them like this. Whatever you want to do to Steven, do it after the match alright?"
He stared at me for a few seconds before he sighed in defeat, relaxing his tensed muscles. I was right. But what's so bad about Steve? He ran his fingers through his dirty blonde hair in frustration before his hands move to cup my face as he lightly swiped his fingers over where it brushed with Steven's a while ago.
"Don't..... Don't let him touch you okay? Please... Just do this for me." He said softly. I was dumbfounded. Why is Tanner acting this way? Why is my heart hurting when I look at him like this? I didn't understand, but I nodded and he pulled me into a hug.
Back at the side benches, Tanner told me to sit there since he didn't want to see me with Steven. After all that how could I refuse right? The game resumed and both teams were at a draw.
I decided not to think about what just happened and pushed it to the back of my head, focusing on the game.
The game progressed quickly and there was only five minutes left, Tanner's team was losing 27 to 30.
Everyone at the side benches with me were anxious while those who supported Ian's team were cheering loudly.
I won't let Ian's team win. I had to do something. I gathered the rest of the members and despite it being only a few us, we had to give them support.
"Alright you guys ready?" I asked as we stood in a line, arms around one another. They all nodded.
"One, two, three!"
"LETS WIN THISSS!!!!" All of us screamed in unison.
We out voiced the cheers from the spectators stand and both the teams on the field turned to look at us as they prepared to face each other once again. Members from Tanner's team gave us a quick thumbs up before getting ready in their positions.
