Uther Pendragon's youngest child, Scarlet, sits on her bed with tears streaming  out of her eyes. Fear was the only feeling. Fear over what she had just done. How could this be? Surely it was all a misunderstanding and she was just dreaming. Scarlet wished this were true, for she knew what she had done. Staring with glossy tear filled eyes, Scarlet stared at the candle on her bedside table. She just ignited a flame with her own mind. If her father were to find out she'd surely be hung, maybe burned. In that moment Scarlet dangled her short legs over the edge of the bed and stood up. There was only one person she knew about that could provide her with information on what was happening. Slowly, she made her way over to her chamber door, silently making her way to Gaius's chambers. He had been helping Morgana with her nightmares for years, maybe there was a cure to the curse that was bestowed upon Scarlet. 

At Gaius's chamber door, the young princess hesitated to knock, thoughts starting to fill her mind. What if Gaius told her father? Before she could turn back and head towards her chambers, she knocked on the door. She felt terrible for waking Gaius, the physician needs his sleep. Her thoughts start to increase but just as she's going to turn around and head back, the door swings open revealing the court physician. 

"Princess Scarlet, what brings you here at this hour?" Gaius asks, looking down at the girl. She shrinks in fear, something she never does around Gaius. He notices something is wrong and motions for her to come inside. 

"Gaius, I'm terribly sorry to wake you but this couldn't wait until morning." The fear grows inside her. Letting out a long shaky breath she speaks. "I fear I have magic." Gaius doesn't seem phased, instead he sighs. "I feared this day would come." She stares at him confused. "A long while ago, your father wished for a child to one day take on the throne of Camelot." Gaius begins, ever since Scarlet's birth Gaius has been planning how to tell her the truth without doing too much harm within her. "Your father didn't know Ygraine was already going to bear a child in just a few months, he consulted a sorceress, she warned him of the things that may happen, yet he did not care. Arthur was born and he believed that nothing would happen so for the next few years Uther and Ygraine lived in happiness, until Ygraine was pregnant again, with you. You were born of magic, Scarlet, and I fear that you have magic as well. You mustn't let anyone know. Listen very carefully, everything that happens, happens for a reason, but the things that do happen, always come with a price."

Scarlet, age 13

Years since she found out she had magic, Scarlet has learned to keep her talents hidden, only letting them show whenever she is alone. No one other than Gaius knows and that's how she plans to keep it.

"Can you believe it? Arthur's coming of age ceremony is soon." Morgana states, handing Gwen something to fold. Gwen shakes her head. "Hard to believe." Their eyes turn on the girl sitting on the bed silently reading a book. "What about you Scarlet, are you excited?" I turn my head up from the book and nod. "Of course, I know my brother will make a wonderful king one day." I smile. I truly believe that as well. I believe when he is king things will be different.

Gwen and Morgana continue conversing about who knows what. As I'm lost in my thoughts, I hear a piercing scream causing me to panic and drop my book. Morgana and Gwen look at me strangely. "D-did you not hear that?" I ask, reaching over to pick up the book that I had dropped. "No, Scarlet are you alright?" Morgana asks. How did they not hear that? My mind jumps to the topic I try my very best to avoid.
