She's Not Afraid

I was awoken by the shrill ringing of my family's home phone. Harry's arms were still tightly wrapped around my waist holding my body firmly against his.

I began shaking Harry trying to wake him up when I heard someone walk past my room. If my mom found out that Harry and I slept together she'd never let me leave the house again. I snuck him into my room at midnight last night when he was supposed to be staying the night at a nearby hotel.

"Harry, you need to hide. Now!" I pried his comfortable grip from my body and lifted the duvet so he could get out.

I watched in amusement as the tall stumbling figure that is my boyfriend walks to the opposite side of the room.

He held his hands up clueless as to where to hide. "Where?"

"The closet." I rush out as I hear footsteps ascending the stairs and pull the blanket back over my head.

"Abigail, phone!" My mother knocks on my door and enters just as Harry pulls my closet doors closed.

"Who is it?" I grumble in no particular mood to talk to anyone this early on my day off.

"Laura." She says and hands me the phone.

"This better be good." I say sitting up.

"Unless being asked to host the TCA's is a bad thing, then you better go back to sleep." Laura replies.

"Wait. What?" I perk up.

"I was contacted by someone from the TCA's organization board and they would like you to host for then this year. You in?"

"Of course I am!" My mother smiles from the doorway.

"I thought you'd be happy. I'll call you later tomorrow morning with more details."

"Okay, thank you Laur. You're the best."

"No problem, is Harry there by the way? The hotel called and said he didn't check in last night."

"Um, yeah."

"I'm assuming your mom doesn't know then. I won't say anything to her this time, but she's already told me that if I don't keep you two from getting too close then she'll pull your contracts."

"Thank you. We're leaving at noon anyways. I just have to keep Harry at bay for a little longer." I joke referring to his very PDA ways.

"Please do. The last thing I need is another fight with your mother over what's good for your career. I swear she thinks she's your manager sometimes." Laura huffs.

"I don't know if I could handle that. I'll call you tomorrow though."

"Alright, bye."

"Bye." I end the call and hand the phone back to my mom.

"This is going to be really good for your career. You should start practicing now." She says.

"I just got the job. They probably don't even have a script yet."

"I have some ideas. Maybe you can practice those until you get the actual script." She leaves the room and I fall back onto my bed with a sigh.

I wait a few moments for her to walk back downstairs before speaking. "Harry, you can come out now." He doesn't respond. "Harry?" I climb out of bed and stand outside the closet. "Harry, she's gone." When he does't reply I open and doors and laugh at the sight before me. Harry is asleep on the floor of my closet. His body is awkwardly slumped over my shoes and one of my dresses hangs in his face.

"Maybe this wasn't such a good idea." I say as Harry revs the engine at a stoplight, again.
