The house was decorated like a palace. Golden lights, flowers, imported cutlery, wine, serving plates and everything just looked new.
"Shelby go get ready your mom will be coming any moment" the maid said
Everything was already ready on my bed. Mom had ironed the dress and also kept the jewellery and makeup with it but a note was also there which read 'Dear Shelby, I know I cannot be your mom but I love you and you are the best daughter anyone could have'. It was touchy but not that much that I would cry.
Soon I was ready with all the ornaments and makeup when someone knocked on my door
"Come in" I replied
It was Xavier "you look beautiful"
He came and stood behind me in front of the mirror noticing the long red traditional lehenga and my golden top. He came close to me "and oh my god who is this handsome guy standing with you.....oh look it's me" he giggled.
He hugged me from behind with his arms around my waist "no seriously, today's party means a lot to my aunt's family and me too"
"I need to tell you something ."he said
"Yes what?"I replied
"Not now" he said
Both of us climbed down, I put a hand around his as if it was some ball dance. He looked dashing in his white suit with black borders. During that party I met many people from their business, family and friends. Xavier got me introduced to everyone. He didn't leave me for a second too until the time he wanted to make an announcement.
"People I would like to make an announcement, it is for the first time I am going to do this no not an announcement in front of you'll but a propose." people started chatting silently "Shelby I love you" he confessed. All eyes turned towards me. I was shocked and didn't know what to say , I did not believe in love but I could not hurt Xavier too. Mom's and dad's eye focused at me. I ran up to my room trying to fight back my tears when I heard Xavier's footsteps behind me
"Shelby wait" he said
"What was that?"
"the thing that I wanted to tell you"
"no this cant be happening. You just embarrassed me in front of everyone. I like you as a friend and moreover you don't even like me. After some days you will just say that you want to break up. People just hurt each other again and again. This all love is stupid. I have seen my mom and dad"
" Shelby what love are you talking about the love that your father had for your mother, I am sorry but that is not called love if he loved her then he would protect he and you. I am sorry that I have to tell you the truth that your parents never loved each other my aunt had an affair with your dad and your mom did not suicide she was murdered not because of your family members but you dad. I want to protect you and have you by my side all the time and everywhere" he lowered his tone
"look you have been the best person in my life, very supportive and I know that I can tell you anything. I don't believe in love and all it's all just a waste of time and both the people involved always hurt each other and I just don't feel like getting into a relationship."
"no I wont. I truly care for you" he tried to come closer to me. I moved away from him and went in my room.
