"Joe! Wake up, Meri's coming over," Zoe informed her brother, walking into his bedroom and opening the curtains. Sunlight shone through.
"Oh my God, Zoe, are you trying to blind me?" Joe grumbled. He put his duvet over his head.
"No, I'm trying to find you a girlfriend," Zoe said.
"Wha?" he asked. He hadn't heard what Zoe had said about Meri coming over.
"I said: Meri's coming over. So get up," Zoe repeated, rolling her eyes. Joe sat up quickly and scowled at her. "There you go..." Zoe laughed.
"What is wrong with you Zoe? Why did you invite Meri over?" Joe asked angrily.
"We're just hanging out... it's no big deal," Zoe shrugged. "You fancy her, right?" she asked.
"No," Joe lied. Zoe grinned at him. "I don't! Just go away,"
...
"Joe? Are you coming shopping with us? If you are, come down now," Zoe called up the stairs. Meri had just arrived and after lots of hugging and catching up, they decided to go to Bath to shop. But Meri hadn't known Joe was at home.
"Joe's here?" Meri asked.
"Yeah... he lives here," Zoe said slowly. Meri blushed and mumbled that she knew that. Zoe smiled to herself. Her plan to get Meri and Joe together was in full swing – Jim had told her that he thought Meri liked Joe but she wanted to see for herself and now she knew: Meri had a crush.
...
Meri squealed. "Oh my God! You have an Anthropologie!" she said happily. "I love this shop! We have to go in,"
Zoe laughed and assured her that they could go in after lunch. They went into Byron Burger and ordered their food. Joe ordered skinny fries with a chicken burger, Zoe ordered a chicken burger with normal fries and Meri ordered a cheeseburger with normal fries.
When their food came, Joe kept taking Meri's chips. "Can you stop?" she asked him with a grin. "Those are mine,"
"Yeah, but I like them," Joe teased, taking another handful.
"Joe!" Meri whined. But secretly, she liked that he was taking her chips. Zoe smiled to herself. Her plan was working. Meri and Joe were literally so cute together.
"Hi, could I have another hot chocolate, please?" Zoe asked the waitress.
"Of course," she replied. Zoe said thanks and Meri hit Joe's hand as he stole another chip.
"Seriously Joe! Stop stealing my food," Meri ordered. Joe smirked at her.
"Make me," he grinned. Meri furrowed her eyebrows and then grabbed his burger and took a massive bite out of it. "Hey!" Joe complained.
Meri laughed as she tried to chew the burger. "I told you to stop," she said with a grin after she'd finished.
"Yeah, but I wasn't eating your burger. Just your chips," Joe tried.
"Too bad, Joseph," Meri smirked. Then Joe grabbed her burger and took an even bigger bite than she had. "Joe! I thought we were truce?"
"I never said that," Joe pointed out. He was still holding her burger. "Wow, this is good," he said. Then he took another bite.
"Stop eating my lunch," Meri insisted. Joe laughed at her and the waitress bought over Zoe's drink. She took a sip.
"I'm just going to the toilet guys, try not to kill each other," Zoe joked. She got up and left and then Meri smirked at Joe.
