"So what happened?", Ethan asked. We were in the lunch line grabbing our trays. It was macaroni day, everyone's favorite.
"She sent me to Trent.", I said, annoyed.
"For what? What'd you say?", Jared asked.
"I told her how she never yells at the girls and that I don't like the favoritism. Then she sent me down." We each paid the lunch lady and made our way over to our table. Caroline and Tyler were already there."So what did Trent say?"
"Cafferty sent you to Trent?", Caroline asked, surprised. I nodded.
"Great job, Caroline.", Ethan said, sarcastically.
"It's not my fault."
"It kinda is." They argue pretty much every lunch all week.
"Can the two of you shut up? I want to hear what happened with Trent.", said Tyler.
"What happened, Tom?", Jared asked.
"Well, Trent got a call, so I had to wait outside his office. But when I went to sit down, I saw my mom."
"She called your mom?"
"That's what I thought, but no. She came for Mike. He won some stupid award, as usual."
"So did she find out what happened?"
"Trent told her everything. And now I have detention and I have to write Cafferty an apology letter."
"Is your mom going to tell your dad?"
"I hope not, but she probably will. And there goes Friday."
"That sucks." We remained silent as we ate our lunches. Every once in a while, Caroline and Ethan would push one another.************
I had missed the rest of my morning classes because of my office trip, but is not like I enjoy those classes anyways. Well, not that I enjoy getting sent to the office either. So, I spent the rest of the day sitting in more classes that I don't like, trying my hardest to not do anything to get into more trouble. My last class of the day was a study. Thank goodness. Studys are periods made to give students an opportunity to either study for a test or get an early start on homework. They give you two in eighth grade to help get a sense of what they will be like in the high school, where students have one everyday, but we tend to use them to talk to friends or sleep instead of doing work.
None of my friends were scheduled in this one with me today, so I planned to take a nap and do my work in my detention later. However, my plans had changed. It turned out that Lizzie was in this study period and she actually came over to me..again! She wanted to talk to me. I was more comfortable talking with her now that I knew she'd want me to go with her to Alex's party. She talked to me about why she hated Ali Blake and I ranted to her about my situation with Ms. Cafferty.
"Oh my gosh. She's horrible to you."
"And she had my older brother a few years ago, so all she does is compare me to him, just like every other adult in my life."
"I take it you and your brother don't get along very well."
"Sometimes, but he can get annoying."
"Were you two arguing this morning?" She remembered.
"Not at first."
"I saw him push you."
"Oh, uh, he claims that this guy on a bike behind me was about to run into me, so he decided to push me 'out of the way'."
She just laughed. I wasn't really sure why, but I laughed too. Mostly because I realized that Jared was right, I was worrying about something stupid for absolutely no reason. Soon enough, it was three o'clock and the dismissal bell rang. Everyone got up quickly and ran out of the room to their lockers, except for us.
"Do you wanna walk home with me?" Lizzie asked, as we slowly walked to the door of the class.
"Me?" I asked. She giggled.
"Who else would I be asking, Tommy?" I blushed.
"I would, but I actually have detention today."
"Oh." She sounded disappointed. "Maybe tomorrow, then?"
"Yeah, okay." I said, smiling.
At least this day managed to get better.
