Mackenzie opened her eyes finally, the blinding light fading into darkness.
Her eyes fell on pitch black dirt, ash more like it. She frowned, but didn't feel her lip muscles move. They were pulled up into a smile. She picked up the dirt and sifted it through her fingers. A light heart giggle filled her ears, to which she realized that was her giggle. She noticed something was off. She wasn't in her body anymore, there was no demon hissing in her ear. Her hands where smaller and free of scars. She "looked" around to find she was once again in her childhood home.
'What the hell........" (Oh author your puns!)
She stood up and ran beside the deep abyss she'd once called 'The Lake'
Her father would throw his victims in when they bored him. She soon realized that she was inside her younger self. She'd guessed she would have been around 6 at this time.
What threw her off was that, she was smiling and laughing and playing. She was being a child. She wasn't tied to a cold metal table, her skin wasn't being stuck with long hollow needles. Strange black liquids weren't being pumped in her body. The pain and screams weren't there. She screamed suddenly when the ground started to shake, trembling beneath her feet. However what flew from her lips shocked her.
"Daddy!!!,"
She had no control, this was only a memory, she supposed, or this could have been all a hallucination caused from her father.
She stretched for the palace steps, her shorter legs gaining less ground. She hated every moment of being a child.
"Daddy!?" Her child self screamed, she called and pleaded in fear, like any other child would do.
Suddenly there was a light. It froze her in her tracks and she looked behind her.
Her heart jumped into her throat, as a man stepped from the lights beam. He was surrounded by a gold light. It was glorious, angelic. It followed him, and she could have sworn she heard the sound of a harp. He scanned around and spotted her, cocking his head curiously. She stood very still, entranced with this stranger. He approached her cautiously and she stumbled back. The closer he got, the more she could make out. He smelt sweet, like something she'd never had before. It was familiar, and made her relax.
Her eyes shifted behind him as a flutter caught her 6 year old attention. She stood with her mouth a gap.
Tucked neatly behind him was his wings the color of cream. Each delicate feather had a pink tint. They were beautiful. She'd seen wings before but none like this. She'd seen her fathers, torn and burnt. Occasionally they bled and he'd leave a trail behind him, which that was pretty often in itself.
Strapped behind him was a grand sword the length of his body.
It was the color of midnight, and she could have sworn stars were embedded into the hilt. He wore a pair of black slacks and a white button shirt. More black leather straps littered his torso holding knives, daggers, and sharp ended crosses. They were shiny and silver, and drew her eye to his chest.
He smiled at her, his teeth white in contrast to his dark tan. His brooding eyes scouring over her small form.
He licked his lips before he spoke.
"Hello there," he said. His voice sent shivers and made every hair on her body rise.
She gulped nervously, shaking.
"H-hi....."
"What's your name?" He enquired.
"N-name? I don't-"
He suddenly gave her a sad look and she felt as if she had said something wrong so she stepped away, blushing.
"Well my name is Aciel," he gave a small smile. It filled her with courage.
"My daddy calls me princess,"
"Oh does he?"
"Yea!"
He frowned again, only this time he was angry. From inside herself she beat away at the walls of her mind, trying to escape. She didn't have any recollection of this memory. It scared her. How could her father have been kind to her? Even in the story he hated her. What has happened for this to happen?
"Your...daddy.... He's not a very nice person,"
Her 6 year old self scowled and shook her head.
"No no no! My daddy is good! He gives me candy and hugs!" She felt herself start to pout.
"Everyone talks bad about him, why?"
He gave her a thoughtful look and suddenly looked toward the palace.
"Can you take me to him?"
She looked up at him curiously.
"Will you try to kill him?" She asked, cautiously.
"No sweetheart, I'm here to retrieve something from him, it doesn't belong to him."
She smiled and ran past the man to the palace. She'd have an excuse to see her daddy and she was very happy. She barged into the French doors and made the weird creatures that cleaned and listened to her father (nether demons of hell of course) scatter around the halls screaming.
She squealed with laughter as if playing a fun game. The man smiled, following behind her. He had kept up with her due to his long legs.
She snatched his hand and pulled him down the length of a dark hall way. The palace of hell was made from a dark black stone, it towered over the abyss, 1,000 feet high. High towers where demon guards flocked through out. The inside was decorated with red velvet curtains down the hall ways, covering the windows when the fires became to bright. The floors were covered in furs from exotic beasts lucifer concocted in his lab. Paintings of gruesome scenes hung up on the wall. All the furniture was a deep burnt cherry wood color carved by millions of the helpless souls hell received daily.
It was what you'd imagine hell would be like, depressing and full of pain.
Soon she found herself leading Aciel down to a place she'd never thought herself to go on her own free will.
She screamed inside as her small body bellowed for someone she'd never wanted to see again.
"Daddy!!! Someone's here to see you!!!" She giggled and let go of the mans hand. She had a sudden sensation of empty ness when the connection was broken. It rocked her to her core, so she looked back at him. She knew what he was, but never would have pictured an angel would be so pretty.
Daddy was a angel, but he wasn't as pretty. The man had very pretty brown eyes, they sparkled when he looked at her and that made her feel very good.
He cleared his throat when she pushed past a metal door, letting it scrap the concert below it.
"Daddy?" She asked looking around.
A gravelly voice sounded from behind the curtain, then the sound of someone clearing their throat.
He spoke again.
"Angel?"
Aciel laughed from behind her, she just shot a glare behind her and darted for the curtain. Her fathers voice changed constantly, she remembered the gravelly hiss. What she was hearing was velvety silk, like Aciel's only smoother.
She ran into the arms of her father. He lifted her high, being 7'2 she felt as if she were the tallest person ever. He stepped from behind the curtain and froze in place, letting a growl slip.
"What do you want?" The pure command in his voice caused the dungeon to shake.
Aciel cleared his voice, standing up straighter. Though he still was no where near as tall as Lucifer.
"I've come here to fetch Her body, it belongs in Heaven, and if I could have," his eyes laid on her "the girl,"
Her father held her tighter.
"Why?"
"Because they both belong with us Lucifer, and you damn well know it."
"She's mine, they both are...... I deserve to keep them both."
"She should have never died! And the child is to pure!"
They were yelling at each other, red light beamed from her father and a gold light from the Angel. She cried out in fear and hid her face in the crook of her fathers neck.
"No, leave us alone! They are mine!!! I never meant her to die!!!"
"But it happened, so just hand them both over, and we won't have a war on our hands Lucifer! Trust me, you don't want this. SHE isn't happy about any of this!"
Lucifer growled and turned away from Aciel.
"I'll let her go but I'm keeping my child," he whispered.
"Why do you want her so much,"
She knew now they were in fact talking about her.
"She's all I have left Aciel. You're still young..... I was created before there was anything in exsistance, you get lonely, especially with no one beside you."
He sob story hit home with the Angel, he looked sad when she finally looked up. He went to say something but stopped.
"Fine," he finally gave in "I'll accept, but know, one day I'll be back for her, we need her, her light. The product of two angels doesn't need to be in this darkness, and you of all people know it."
With a flash of light and a soft flutter, Aciel was gone.
Her father put her down, shaking.
She tried clinging to him but he kept pushing her away. This feeling she was all to familiar with, not the loving touch he'd gifted her earlier (I don't know how to word that better)
When she looked up at his face his eye were that piercing electric green, he scratched the stubble on his chin and sighed.
"This is all your fault," he whispered sadly, stroking her hair. She gave him a fallen look, her heart fluttered painfully, never had her father said those things to her, at least not this version. It stung and caused actual tears to flow. Her father ran a tired hand through his thick black curls and grimaced. He picked her up and set her on the table.
"Baby?" He whispered.
"Yes sir?"
"Daddy is so sorry," he said staring at something behind her. She reached out for a hug.
"Daddy is okay, I'm never gonna go with that man, ever I promise,"
"Yes baby, I know you won't, but you also won't love me anymore."
"What do you mean?" Fear struck her as he walked around the table he sat her down at and picked up a syringe. With a snap of his fingers a stumbling scaly demon was by his side, snake like eyes darting everywhere. Without permission her father took the syringe and extracted it's blood.
He came back to stand in front of her. She could have sworn tears stained his face.
"Daddy's sorry," he whispered and plunged it into her small, porcelain white arm. She screamed in pain and clawed at him. The liquid felt like acid in her veins. The all to familiar burn was back.
