"Don't forget to do the homework! Pages 1 and 2 of the worksheet!" my math teacher cried out as we all piled out of class in a hurry to get to lunch.
First day of school and I was already being hit with a bunch of homework that I was probably not even going to do until tomorrow morning.
I got a plastic tray once I reached the cafeteria, and waited in line until it was my turn.
There was pizza, hamburgers, chicken.... But everything looked like shit, so I just went for chicken and mashed potatoes. The lunch lady scolded me before I left, telling me I had to get at least one fruit or vegetable, so I reluctantly picked up some carrots, leaving shortly after.
I looked around the place, but it looked full, so I went to look in the outside tables. They were quickly piling up with hungry students, everyone just trying to get through the day.
Walking around a bit, I got many stares from some people. The rest just minded their own business like they should. But thankfully for me, I spotted Noah sitting at a lonely table, with only some short-haired girl as his company.
I rushed over to them, trying to finally sit somewhere normal and eat my lunch.
"Hey Noah," I greeted.
He turned around and raised his eyebrows, smiling at me. "Oh! Hey Lexa."
"Can I sit here?"
"Sure, sure."
I sat across from him as he grinned.
"Oh, by the way, Audrey - this is Lexa." He pointed at me. "Lexa, that's Audrey."
The so-called Audrey looked confused, her eyebrows furrowed as she slowly ate her pizza. "Where'd you come from?"
"Now now, Audrey. We are nice to people now, remember?"
She glared at him and rolled her eyes before turning back to me.
"Sorry, didn't mean for that to sound rude."
"No worries," I assured her, extending my arm a bit to shake hers. "Nice to meet you."
"Yeah, back at ya," she responded, shaking my hand before going back to her pizza.
"So what do you think of G. W. High?" Noah questioned as I poked out a piece of my chicken.
"It's... Alright. It's still school so it sucks just the same."
"Agreed," Audrey joined in.
"It's not that bad, I mean we have our own murder history. That's pretty cool."
My head snapped towards him. What...? In what world is murder cool?
"The geek over here is obsessed with anything horror related," Audrey explained upon seeing my expression. "Specifically slasher movies."
"You probably think I'm a psycho," Noah chimed in.
"You are," Audrey shot back. It was his turn to glare at her as she made a toast with her pizza. I snickered at their friendship.
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad around here.
"Hey guys," someone greeted, startling the crap out of me.
"Hey Emma," Noah said. Audrey just nodded her head in recognition, obviously way too busy with her food at this point to say anything back.
"Oh," Emma said when she saw me. "Hi." She looked at Noah before asking him, "Who's this?"
"Lexa. She's new."
Emma nodded as she shook my hand.
"I'm Emma."
