I knew it'd be a bad idea.
When the bell indicating the end of third period rang, I decided to ditch to see Kieran, the worst possible idea ever made by a human brain. But I, as much as everyone in this town, needed to know what was going on. What was really going on.
So the bell rang and I left class, walking towards the football fields in the back of the school. I knew I couldn't go out through the front, because the stupid cop my mom had left behind to babysit me was there.
"Lexa, hey," an all-too familiar voice called out.
"Hi, Felix," I blurted, trying to walk faster in hopes of leaving him behind.
"Where are you going?"
"Where does it look?"
"It looks like you're trying to leave campus."
I stopped shortly and turned to him, frowning. "Excuse me?"
"Um, no, I just-" he stuttered, looking around and finally leaning in, his voice almost a whisper now. "We have lunch together."
"Yeah, so?"
"Lunch is that way," he pointed behind him, the exact direction I was walking away from.
Sighing deeply, I took my hand and ran it through my hair, already frustrated that my plan was failing without even putting it into action.
"If you're gonna ditch, at least let me go with you," Felix went on, still speaking lowly.
"I'm - Felix, I'm not ditching-"
"Then why were you heading towards the football fields?"
"This is getting creepy, I'm just gonna go and leave you behind to keep coming up with your freakishly accurate assumptions-"
"Okay, wait," he started again, taking hold of my wrist strongly and whipping me around to face him again.
"I just... I need to know."
"Need to know what?" I questioned abruptly, trying to find an easy way out of whatever I'd gotten myself into with Felix.
"Well, I was wondering....have you asked Noah about the comic book thing yet?"
It took me a couple of seconds - long seconds - to process the question, especially because I expected something more eerie and personal.
"Are you kidding me-"
"I'm so sorry, I just need to know, because of the club you know, and-"
"No, sorry," I sighed out, looking at his eyes. "Sorry Felix."
"It's alright, just tell him some other time-"
"No, I mean, sorry for being so bitchy. And also for not telling Noah, but mostly for the first part."
"It's alright, Lexa," he grinned, his grin diminishing to a tight smile. "We're all too altered up these days, especially with a murderer on the loose."
"Yeah. Listen, I'm gonna go now, but I'll see you around yeah? And I'll let you know when I tell Noah," I smiled, already walking away.
"No worries. And Lexa?"
"Hm?"
"Wherever you're going, be careful."
I smiled as a response, turning around as I kept walking, all the while feeling Felix's gaze on me.
-
"Kieran?" the female cop questioned once I told her who I was there to visit.
"Yep," I answered, mentally slapping myself for such a stupid response.
