"You know what I just realized?"
"What?""We haven't really hung out much."
I turned to Gustavo who was currently drawing something on his iPad. We were in the library, hoping to maybe catch a glimpse of Felix, but in the thirty minutes we'd been here, he was no where to be seen.
"That's because there's a string of murders occurring every five minutes," I answered, drinking from my water bottle. He half smiled, his hand rapidly sliding and tapping all over the screen. I remembered what the cop had told me, about Gustavo becoming too involved in the case and I wondered if he would respond honestly if I asked him.
"So, you're looking into the case, huh?"
"What?" he chuckled out lightly, not looking up from the screen.
"I know you're looking for the murderer."
This made him look up, his expression changing from playful to serious.
"Jake told you."
I frowned. "Told me what?"
He looked a bit confused for a second, his eyes narrowing a bit. "He didn't tell you? Wait, what are you talking about?"
"About you being involved...." I sighed, thinking about what Eli said about the two of them and trying to connect it with what the officer told me. "You're...are you and Jake involved in...you know-"
"What did he tell? Did he tell you anything?"
"Was he supposed to?"
Stavo leaned back in his chair, resuming his previous activity as he once again drove his hand all over the screen of his device. "He probably doesn't want you to know then, but what the hell right?" After a two second pause, he continued. "We're trying to figure out who the killer is. Since the cops found Kieran, we knew something was up. Call it intuition, but we teamed up and, well..."
He shrugged a bit, smirking as he turned around his iPad so I could see the gruesome drawing he'd done of me.
"Wow, impressive."
"I try."
"So back to the topic, you two were working together?"
"Are," he corrected.
"Is that why you'd disappear all the time? Like, where you guys run off to everyday?" I paused before adding, "Where do you guys run off to everyday?"
"We go underground ten feet into our secret lair and use our super cool tech stuff to figure out super interesting clues about the murders."
I glared at his sarcastic answer as he grinned at me.
"Stop worrying so much about it," he finally breathed out. "It's not like we've actually gotten anywhere close."
"Hey," someone said behind me, causing me to whip my head around to see the one and only Felix Grant approaching us, holding a thick book in one of his hands.
"Hi.... Felix, right?" mumbled out, trying not to make it obvious that I'd been trying to figure out everything about him for the past two days.
"Yeah, you're Lexa. And you're...her friend," he smiled, looking at Stavo who nodded his way, his face showing thought and seriousness.
"What's up?"
"I need to ask you something."
Feeling my heart start to race, I answered with, "Sure, what's the question?"
