I walked into the gym with the shorts and T-shirt the gym's office lady had given me, along with some knee high socks.
Honestly, I don't know why they dressed us up like that, only to later complain about how we distract boys with our outfits.
American Education System, such a blast.
I heard someone whistling at me as I walked towards the bleachers, where most girls were sitting at.
Turning to look at the culprit, I narrowed my eyes at Jake who was walking over to me, already sweaty from playing basketball with the rest of the guys.
"Don't you have something better to do with your life?" I mumbled.
"Not around you."
"You don't even know me."
"New York city girl who came to Lakewood, trying to begin with a fresh start after some traumatic event that happened. I think I know you pretty well."
I chuckled at his obviously wrong answer as I walked up the bleachers, trying to get as far away from him as possible. But he followed.
"What the hell are you doing?" I whispered as I sat on the top bench.
"Sitting with you, duh."
Jake sat right next to me, the heat radiating off his body, making me uncomfortable.
He was an asshole, yes, but a very, very attractive asshole.
"Go play basketball or something," I urged.
"Why, are you gonna play with me?"
"No."
"That's okay, we can play with each other some other time."
I shoved him as he laughed at his own dirty joke.
He's the real joke here.
"So what exactly do we do?" I asked, changing the subject. "Is this what P.E consists of? Just sitting down?"
"Sometimes," Jake answered, "other times they make you play volleyball or something. The guys play mostly basketball, as you can see. But you're welcome to play with us."
"I can't play sports to save my life," I snickered back.
"I'll teach you."
"What?"
I turned to him to check for a smirk, or a sarcastic smile that meant he wasn't being serious. But he was.
"C'mon, it'll be fun," he said, standing up.
"Yeah, for you," I snapped back.
He chuckled at me, taking my hand to help me up. "Seriously, you'll be fine."
He led me down the bleachers, but didn't let go of my hand, making it even more awkward since the girls beside us were all probably crushing on him.
I felt so awkward, so uncomfortable, that once we got to the court, I just awkwardly stood there as he tried to get the ball from one of the guys.
They both started arguing, something about ruining the game before Jake said, "Go get another ball. I'm using this one."
After a few seconds of staring at each other, the other guy just walked away towards the basket with basketballs inside as Jake walked back over to me.
"Was that a catfight I just saw?" I joked.
He smiled, handing me the ball. "You wish. Okay, so you see that hoop over there? This thing-" he took the ball from my hands and held it up. "-goes in there."
