The lights blinded me every now and then, but I began to grow used to it. It was exhausting trying to find the people I needed to see in such a huge place, especially because it was packed, and people kept coming in anyways.

Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye I saw a face that seemed way too familiar for me to ignore.

I turned to look at Jake, only to see him staring back, his jaw clenched. I frowned, and began to make my way over in search of an explanation of why he was being such a dick, when he reached over to the girl beside him, still not taking his eyes off me. I stopped suddenly, as the girl giggled and whispered something in his ear. Finally, Jake looked over at her and smirked as he answered, before they both started making out.

The pain that came next was unusual. I shouldn't have felt so betrayed, but I did. I mean, he could go out with anyone he wanted, why should I care?

But for some reason, this affected me a lot more than it should have. I felt like vomiting, and immediately rushed away from the scene.

This was a bad idea.

Honestly, what the hell was I thinking? This was the stupidest idea ever. Leaving my house and coming to a party while there's a killer on the loose? Not my best idea.

And I could have spoken to Emma or Audrey at school, why would I even think about coming here?

"Lexa?"

I turned around to see Audrey walking over to me, a frown on her face. "What are you doing here?"

"Well, Emma sent me the invitation for the party, so I thought maybe she wanted to talk or something-"

"She sent you the invitation?" Audrey interrogated, her frown only growing.

I stared at her for a second before replying, "Yeah...why?"

"Because I've been with Emma, and neither one of us is even hosting this party. Someone set us up."

"Well, well, well," Jake suddenly said, walking in slowly from behind Audrey. "Would you look at that. Queen Lexa left her boy toy to come to the great party of the masks."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

His sarcastic smirk turned to a scowl in a matter of seconds as he slightly pushed Audrey out of the way to get closer to me.

"Don't act dumb, Lex. I know when a girl wants to have "fun", and it's fine if you didn't want it with me but I would have appreciated if you hadn't led me on."

"What are you talking about?!" I started yelling over the loud music as he clenched his jaw. "I have no boy toy, I have literally no idea what you're talking about-"

"You know what?" he scoffed, staring straight at me. "I'm done chasing after you. You can rot in hell, Lexa Villa."

He coldly shoved himself past me, as I felt my cheeks get puffy.

Oh my gosh, don't cry, Lexa.

"That was...."

"A bit harsh," I finished for Audrey, as I tried my hardest to contain the emotions threatening to spill out.

"Whatever," I breathed out after I was finally able to control my emotional self, wiping away the couple tears that managed to escape. "He's not important right now. What's important is the fact that neither you nor Emma made this party, but Emma sent the invitation. I only know one person who would trick us like this."

"The killer," Audrey nodded. "It could be anyone," she added, looking around the huge room with her hands on her hips. "They all have masks on."

"Well, Haley was giving out the masks, so we can ask her...though I doubt she'll warm up to me enough to talk."
