"So why are you mad now, Lex Luthor?"
Jake and I were currently in some café that was surprisingly still open, and he was really testing me. I was trying to tell him everything, but there he went being an asshole and interrupting me anytime he could.
You deserve it.
"Noah and I... We thought we would find something, and then-"
"And then Superman showed up and beat the hell out of you."
"More like Eclipso."
Jake raised his brows and sat back in his chair in what looked like awe. "Wow, I do love a woman who knows her super villains."
I glared at him, and he winked as I took a sip of my coffee.
"So," I started, trying to find the words to explain to him. "Basically, Noah and I were attacked, and Audrey was there. And Emma too, and Emma saw the killer and we were all trying to run and out of nowhere Keiran appeared-"
"Whoa, slow down princesa, wouldn't want you to scare yourself there."
"It's too late for that," I mumbled out, taking another sip of the coffee before waiting a beat.
"There's something you should know."
I waited a few moments as he stared at me intently.
"Well, you know Audrey?"
Jake frowned, before sarcastically saying, "Yeah, I know Audrey. It's not like we lived through a murder scenario together or anything."
"I'm being serious Jake. So anyways, she's - um, well - she..."
"Spit it out Lex."
"She was the killer's accomplice."
Jake stared at me for a few seconds, showing a blank expression before his features changed into a heart-melting smile.
"Nice one babe, but I'm not easily tricked."
"I'm serious. She knew Ian was dead way before us, and she has the suit and everything. She was the one that knocked us out, and then pretended that she was kidnapped too - and oh my gosh."
"What?"
"I just left Noah there. I left him." I straightened up a bit before continuing. "Audrey put a cloth with chloroform over Noah's mouth and nose, which is how he passed out. But I just ran. I left him there, and had it been the killer, the real killer, he would have died."
I took another sip of my coffee, as Jake processed everything.
"So you're telling me Audrey killed someone?"
"I don't know, but Noah thinks she's the accomplice. Scratch that, Noah knows she's the accomplice. And so do I, and you do too."
He stayed silent, before blowing out a sigh. "Wow," he began, "you really are an asshole for leaving him behind."
I groaned as he chuckled.
"I know!" I agreed. Suddenly, Jake took my hand, and his entire demeanor changed from playful to serious. To be honest, it kind of scared me.
"But you're okay now, right?" he asked.
"Yeah," I gulped, "we all are."
"Good. I wouldn't want my super villain to be hurt."
I scoffed playfully at him as my phone buzzed in my pocket.
Probably my mother who most likely already sent out ten patrols in search of me.
