The Touch

Chapter 11 - Watchers

Moving away from us, the teacher walked towards the Watcher. It was playing out just as I had seen it. They were going to try and take her.

Another black SUV car pulled up and I could see the bald headed Watcher sitting inside it. It seemed there were two Watchers in each car. This had now become very complicated.

How would I get to four Watchers and also get Melissa to safety? I had to think fast as I knew I had only seconds until she grabbed for her friend and her eyes would give her away.

The Watcher walked through the children playing and approached the Teacher, who gave me a quick look, warning me to get her away quickly. I now knew that this was no longer a possibility unless I could disarm all four Watchers.

The teacher was talking to the Watcher as I made my way between the two girls. Cara looked at her friend and I knew they were both scared. The Watcher turned towards the teacher with a menacing glare on his face and I quickly grabbed Melissa and turned her around so that her back was away from the Watcher.

"Do not turn around until I say so" I instructed Melissa "Cara, you must act like you are talking together about something funny. Whatever you do Melissa you must not grab Cara's hand as you will give away that you have the Touch".

I could tell she was trembling but she nodded her head.

It was time for me to do what I was meant to do. I walked towards the Watcher and the Teacher. The Teacher was adamant about the fact that no children attended this school that had the touch and the Watcher was getting angry at his denial.

"I know that you have a child here with the Touch and unless you want me to line every single child up and they stay standing for as long as it takes, then you had better co-operate and take me to them now!" the Watcher yelled.

The teacher saw me coming up behind him and I signalled to him with my eyes not to look at me. Luckily the Watcher hadn't seen his quick glance towards me so I was able to move around the side of the Watcher.

The Watcher stared at me briefly then I grabbed for his wrist and I blanked him. I turned to the Teacher and told him to get the other kids out of here fast. The recess bell went and I knew that we wouldn't have much of a problem as they could blend in with everyone else rushing to get to their classrooms. I looked over and Cara and Melissa were still standing there talking and laughing aloud. I made my way towards the cars just as the door opened of the second car. The bald Watcher came out of the car and walks fast towards me. He had obviously seen something happen with the other watcher and was coming to investigate. I walked straight up to him and quickly grabbed his wrist, but missed.

He grabbed for my jacket and I swung around at his arm in one of the moves I had learnt while sparing with Max. He moved to the side so that my hit hadn't done much damage and grabbed for me again. By this time I could see out of the corner of my eye that another Watcher was making his way out of the car and towards us both. The Watcher grabbed the back of my jacket and I twisted out of it and reached up with my hand to grab his wrist. He was stunned in seconds and I blanked him. The third Watcher stopped in his tracks and then signalled to the watcher in the other car to leave and get help. I ran up to him and before he could turn back around I grabbed him and stunned him as well. Three down and one to go!

The car started and I could see it was about to reverse out from the parking area. I wasn't close enough to reach the car and I knew I needed to somehow get in front of the car then around to the driver's side to disable the driver. If the car left now then more Watchers would be sure to follow and they would try anything to find out where the girl had been taken to and who I was.
