My mother had always told me that there was a huge injustice done towards the children with the Touch and she had found proof that they were using the children like lab rats and were performing horrible tests on them. It had been my mothers goal to shut down these institutes, until someone had shut her down instead. Tori's ignorance was just another reason that I thought it was time to call the relationship off. To be honest the relationship had been based on the fact that she was so different than Callie and I had to admit that it had been more of a relationship based on physical factors than on the meeting of two minds that I felt I had had with Callie.
Of course Tori got her own back on me that night. She got drunk and decided to try and teach me a lesson by sleeping with my best friend Theon. Of course Theon was no saint either but at least I had suspected that he actually had feelings for Tori. I punched Theon in the face when he told me, just because he needed to know that mates don't do that to each other and that he shouldn't have done that to Samantha either.
I was sick of playing games with Tori and broke it off with her.
"Slade I am so sorry. I drank too much and you weren't there for me when I needed you" Tori cried.
"Tori I know just what you were up to and the fact that you also chose my best friend just made it even clearer that you did this to try and hurt me. I am sorry but it is over between us".
Fury ripped over her red rimmed eyes for a second and she flung herself at me, fists trying to hit me "You arsehole! You are not even upset that it happened. I hate you. You are not worth anything to me" Tori spat "Plus you are a lousy lay!".
The last bit nearly made me laugh, not because I didn't believe her, maybe I was lousy, but more because of the ludicrous manner in which she said it, like it was an afterthought.
She was angry and I understood that, but I was relieved it was over.
For months afterwards she decided to flaunt herself with one guy or another always in front of me. I really didn't care because as far as I was concerned it had been a relationship that was never meant to be forever.
It took us a year to actually be civil towards each other and it was around this time that she discovered that my father and I were involved with the CWT. Theon and I had discovered my father's whereabouts, as it turned out that his meetings were not in the office, but in an underground hideaway under an old church yard. We had followed him to the area and then parked our car behind a clump of old bushes and walked around to see what this place was. The old church stood by itself off a dusty road that looked like it had hardly been used. I saw my father get out of his car and meet a man by the church. They walked across the church yard towards a large grey tomb with a heavy looking door then he went inside and closed the door behind him. I knew it had to lead to somewhere else as my father would never go into a tomb on purpose. He had had a dislike of tomb's since he was a child when he and his friend got locked in one, therefore I knew he would never go into one unless it lead to something else.
Theon and I opened the door and sure enough he was no longer in there, but I could see that the cement tomb stone was not sitting correctly on the floor. We pushed it aside and I could see a staircase leading down into darkness.
I had grabbed a torch out of the car before we followed the stairs down into the tunnel. I could hear the sound of rushing water below and turned to Theon.
"Well are you coming?" I said.
He looked down at the dark stairs and then back to the door which he closed behind him then made his way down behind me.
"Why is your father down here Slade and who was that guy?"
"Well obviously it wasn't another lawyer and this isn't a meeting in the office, so let's just find him and see what he is up to" I replied.
