As I sat there on the bed I thought about what she had said. Could it be possible that the CWT would plan an ambush? Would it be possible that all the children with the touch and their families could be freed from this place?
I could only hope for everyone's sake that if something was to happen that it happened soon as I knew that what Dr Martin's had seen today was only a small bit of what I could do and that he would want to do more testing on me and maybe on others.
All I could do was wait and hope that Theon and the others were prepared to save us from this place, that they would have a plan of some sort. That's when I remembered the meeting that they had while we were at the farm house. They were talking about an institute and I also remember seeing a map of a large institute on the table. I was positive now that it was this institute that they had been referring to.
Part of me wished that I had someone on the outside that had the Touch so I could try and contact them like Blind Bird did to me. But there wasn't anyone left now. They were all here in this institute or at other institutes.
Wait! They could be at this institute! Could I contact them now while we were in the same building? Could I actually locate them?
But then what? What can I do when I am locked up here in this room?
The more I thought about it the more I wanted to try it. There could be news amongst the parents and I could at least try to contact one of the children. I knew who was first on my list to try. Melissa was the perfect person as she wouldn't be afraid if she knew it was me and she could have the same ability that Blind Bird and I do. It was worth trying.
That night, when everyone was in lock down and the lights were turned off, I lay down on the bed and focused on Melissa. She was only young but I knew that she would be the only child that would probably be mature enough to handle what she was hopefully about to hear and see.
As I looked at the ceiling and saw the white paint through the dark, I visualised Melissa with my mind. I tried to remember every detail of her. Her curly brown hair, her blue eyes, the freckles on her face and I recalled her voice when we were talking at the CWT. I visualised her playing with her friends by the underground apartment and her voice laughing with them.
The ceiling started to warp and twist then it disappeared and I was looking at another ceiling. This ceiling was wooden and had notches where the wood grain curved around. I saw a hand drift up in front of my vision and then I heard her voice.
"Lacey? Is that you?"
"Yes Melissa, it is. Please don't be afraid and don't alert your parents just yet. I need to talk to you".
"Okay" She replied in her small sweet voice.
"Are you near a mirror Melissa?"
"Yes. There is one by the wardrobe".
"Great" I replied. "Can you go to the mirror and look in it. Please don't be afraid by what you see as nothing will harm you, I just need for you to see it yourself".
"What am I going to see?" she replied.
"Your eyes will light up and you will see a vision when you look in the mirror. I need you to look in the mirror and I will show you my vision, then I want you to do the same so I can see where you are".
Melissa got out of her bed and walked quietly past her parents who were sleeping in a bed next to hers. I could see that their room was not much bigger than mine and that they had the same bedroom furniture that I did.
As she came to the mirror I could see her gasp as her eyes were lit up.
"Don't be afraid Melissa. I will be here with you the entire time okay".
"Are we going to go home soon? I want to go home Lacey" she said, her voice quivering with emotion.
"We are going to do this so that I can work out where you are. If I can work out where you are then I will find a way to come for you. I will never leave you or any of the children or their families here Melissa, but first we have to do this".
I could feel my words had calmed her and she looked into the mirror.
"This will only take a small amount of time, but it may seem like you are standing there for a while" I said.
She nodded and I knew she was ready. She took a breath in and I started on the road from the farmhouse. I didn't want her to see what had happened to Slade and what I had done to try and save him. I just wanted her to see the roads that I travelled here to the institute, then I was hoping to see hers.
She saw my visions of the roads and the signs and towns that I had passed on my journey to the institute. Then I showed her the private road and the sign that I saw on the road to the institute and the view of the buildings from the hill. This is where I stopped my vision.
"Melissa, do you see that large building in the middle? That is where I am being held".
She seemed excited when I showed her this. "Can you see mine now Lacey?".
"You have to show it to me Melissa. Show me what you saw after you left the CWT".
Melissa's vision came through blurry in the beginning and then became stronger. People were on the back of trucks and many of the parents were holding on to their children who were crying. Melissa was crying, but she was also looking outside of the windows as the trucks drove along. The road looked very similar to the one that I had travelled on as it had the same tree lines and farming properties surrounding it. She showed me a sign and it was the same one that I had seen. Which meant were all at the same institute where I was being held.
When she reached her vision of the building that she was taken to I recognised it straight away. I remembered seeing a wooden structure further down from the main building that had guards outside. They had to be all in that building!
"We are in the same place Lacey!" Melissa said aloud.
The vision started to fade as Melissa's parents woke.
"Melissa, what are you doing by the mirror" her mother said.
Melissa turned and looked at her parents and they both reeled back in shock as her eyes were lit up still.
"I have to go Melissa, but now that I know where you are can you tell your parents about what we have done and that they must be careful who they tell. Only trusted people should know as it could be very dangerous for you if anyone found out from the institute. Tell them also that I have heard that the others from the CWT are planning to rescue us, but I don't know if this is the truth or a lie at the moment, so they must also keep that to themselves".
"Okay Lacey. Can we do this again tomorrow?"
"I will try to Melissa, but you have to promise to keep this to yourself for a while. Don't tell the other children about what we did tonight. Promise me that".
"I promise" Melissa said. I felt the vision surge and she was gone.
I knew she would tell her parents the truth and that they would only tell the council leaders. They had to plan what would happen if there was an ambush and how they could get out of there if it did happen. I would make sure that I found her and her family if we were rescued and all I could do now was hope that the CWT knew where we were.
