Chapter 30 - Sight

The car flickered it's lights towards us and we knew that it wasn't the Watchers, it was someone from the CWT. From the way it was racing down the dirt road I knew straight away that someone in that car had to be injured.

As the car moved in closer to us, I could see that it was another BMW like the one we had arrived in. I felt Slade tense up beside me so I knew it had to be either Slade's father or Theon driving it.

The driver's door opened and Theon got out and raced over to the passenger side. When he opened the door I could see Jeffrey slumped in the seat with blood soaking his shirt. Slade and some of the other men ran over to him.

"He's breathing" one of the men shouted as they lifted him carefully out of the car.

The woman behind me, who had introduced herself as May when I had arrived, opened the front door as they carried Jeffrey into the house.

"Get him in the back on the gurney" May shouted.

They opened the door to what must have once been the back parlor room and I was shocked to see that it was made up like a hospital room with a few hospital beds and cabinets stocked with medical equipment and medicine. They placed Jeffrey on the gurney and he was deathly pale with his right arm hung to the side in an odd angle. It was definitely broken. When May opened his shirt I could see that he had a large bullet wound on the left hand side of his chest and as she rolled him gently on to his side I could also see that it had exited through his back.

Another woman who had bright red hair and looked like a younger version of May entered the room holding a dish of warm water with some type of antiseptic smelling liquid in it. She also had some tools that looked like surgical instruments.

"May is a nurse and her daughter Eloise is too" Theon said beside me. I turned and saw the pain in his eyes and hugged him.

"I am glad you are okay. Did you see the others? Do you know where they have been taken?" I asked.

Slade moved away from his father's side and came towards us.

"What went on down there Theon? What happened to my father?" Slade said.

Theon looked at Jeffrey and then back to Slade. "It happened so quickly that I can hardly remember exactly what happened" he said.

I put my hand up towards his wrist "Maybe I can tell you both" I said.

Theon nodded and I took his wrist.

The vision blurred and I saw Theon was walking towards Tori who was talking to the man I had seen her with once before. She looked at Theon and I could see the smirk written all over her face.

"So where is Lacey? I take it that she got a bit freaked out when she saw the possibility that her abilities could be wiped out. I bet she didn't take that very well" Tori said.

"I really don't know what you have against her" Theon said, his voice becoming angry. " She is just like everyone else here you know. So what exactly is your beef with her, aside from the obvious jealousy you have with Slade and her being together".

Tori's face grimaced "She is just a fascination to him because of her abilities. Once those abilities have gone then so will his fascination"

Theon looked at her and I could feel the hurt he had. He loved Tori but she was never going to love him back.

Tori saw that pained look on his face and came closer to him. Her face now took on this softer look, but I could see right through it.

"You should know by now that I don't have those feelings for Slade anymore" she said as she placed her hand in his. "The connection that you and I share is much more than Slade and I ever did" she purred." We have had fun over the past couple of weeks haven't we? Who says we can't continue that".
