Artem's heart pounded against his ribs as he went about swapping SIM cards in and out and setting up multiple layers of VPN security, plus Tor.
He'd heard Americans talk about this stuff before, seen them chatter on some questionable forums about how it was possible to burrow below the surface web, and even under the Deep Web for that matter. Apparently, lots of government servers sat just beneath the Deep Web.
Artem had been terrified to go much deeper than the cliche drug dealers and hitmen that spent their time loitering about on the Deep Web, demanding Bitcoin payment for their gruesome services. He'd seen enough of that years ago, and furthermore, he wasn't sure the KGB would be so friendly with hackers and criminals. Or, rather, instead of the KGB, which supposedly didn't even exist anymore, perhaps the FIS or FSS would have more sympathy.
Eh, probably not. Artem thought. They're all the same.
Once he finished setting up his shiny new VPN, Artem took a few moments to clarify his goal. He dared not write it down.
Find anything that could lead me to Ravil, and hope to Bog that I don't get arrested. Got it.
