Chapter 14

"It's the ten duel commandments!", All the soldiers said. 

Jona challenged Charlotte to a duel. News travels fast doesn't it? Luckily, Georgia didn't hear the news and that was very lucky. 

There was a list showing all the commandments to everyone. 

"1) The challenge demands satisfaction. If they apologize, no need for further action", Jona read on, "2) If they don't, grab a friend, that's your second"

"Your lieutenant when there's reckoning to be reckoned", Alexandra interrupted. 

"3) Have your seconds meet face to face", Charlotte read. 

Alexandra was Jona's second while Adriana was Charlotte's second. They two girls met up. "Negotiate a peace...", Adriana thought while Alexandra thought "Negotiate a time and place." "His is commonplace, 'specially 'tween recruits", Ariana started while Alexandra joined in at the end, "Most disputes die, and no one shoots"

"4) If they don't reach a peace, that's alright. Time to get some pistols and a doctor on site", Jona read and turned to Alexandra. Alexandra nodded and grabbed Adriana to help get a doctor. 

"We pay him in advance, you treat him with civility", Alexandra said while handing the doctor the money. 

"You have him turn around so he can have deniability", Adriana interrupted and grabbed Alexandra's arm afterward. 

"5) Duel before the sun is in the sky, pick a place to die that's high and dry.", Charlotte read to Adriana. 

"6) Leave a note for your next of kin, tell 'em where you been. Pray that hell or heaven lets you in", Alexandra read to Jona and nodded as Jona wrote a letter. 

"7) Confess your sins. Ready for the moment of adrenaline when you finally face your opponent", Charlotte said, going through the commandments in her head. It was almost time to duel. 

"8) Your last chance to negotiate. Send in your seconds, see if they can set the record straight...", all four  girls said at the time. 

"Alexandra", Adriana said as Alexandra walked up to her. It was time to maybe make peace so there was no duel. 

"Adriana Burr, Ms.", Alexandra replied as she walked up to Adriana. 

"Can we agree that duels are dumb and immature?"

"Sure. But your girl has to answer for her words Burr."

"With her life? We both know that's absurd Mrs. Hamilton."

"Hang on, how many girls died because Lee was inexperienced and ruinous?!"

"Okay, so we're doin' this", Adriana sighed and  walked back to Charlotte as Alexandra walked back to Jona. 

"9) Look 'em in the eye, aim no higher, summon all the courage you require," Alexandra said as Jona walked out to the dueling field and took position. Charlotte did the same thing as Jona and took a deep breath. "Then count,"

"1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, NUMBER 10!" 

"PACES FIRE!"

I added the effects to the words to make it suspenseful. Did it work a little? I just wanted the darkest part to be the last words while the underlined were the commandments. This took me 42 minutes to write. Crazy huh? But I have a question. So I really love those chat room books and there aren't too many for Hamilton. So I was thinking I should maybe do that?
