"I'll pick you up at 8!" Drake said. I could tell he was smiling. I had finally gave in and told him I would go to the party. I wasn't telling my mother about the party.
I hung up the phone and went downstairs for breakfast.
"I have to go to James house tonight, I won't be home until late. Are you okay by yourself?" My mother asked me. She had been spending a lot of time with James lately.
"Yup," I said popping the P. She could tell I was upset about the whole thing.
We didn't talk much more during breakfast. I helped her with dishes and she went off to work. Looking at the calender I realized I should of went to dance last night, and should be skating right now! I thought about the whole thing for a minute, grabbed my car keys and headed for the arena.
I sat in the parking lot for a while. I knew I had to go in this time. I had to practice. I got out of the car and headed for the door.
Once inside, I stared at my fathers office window. "Might as well get it over with," I thought once more as I walked to his door. There were empty boxes outside his office, I took them all inside. I sat down in his chair and looked around. The first time I sat here I was telling my dad what bookshelf to put where and helping him organize. Now it's just me in here, and i'm suppose to unorganzie everything and pack it away.
I opened the first drawer on his desk. There was nothing in there but some loose papers and a few books dad was reading. The second drawer consisted of a lot of candy and junk food. Dad always liked having something to snack on while in the office, especially when he knew he would be here late. The third drawer is what got to me the most. Once I opened it, pictures of my dad and I was the first thing I seen. Us skating, me skating alone, pictures I had taken of him in his office working, and then there was a letter. Was this the letter dad was trying to tell me about on our way home the night of the accident? The envelope said " To Brooke Northup, Read Only When I'm Gone For Good!" I opened it as a tear fell down my face and landed on the corner of the envelope. The letter inside was dated September 22nd, 2008.
" Dear my sweet Brooke,
If your reading this I guess it means our time together has come to and end! This is only for now. We will see each other again someday.
First of all, shame on you for snooping threw my office, but I kind of figured you would of eventually. I'm glad you found my letter. I hope no one got to it before you did.
Second, as you may already know the arena and everything inside of it belongs to you. I want you to keep up your skating. I hope by now you haven't gave up. I hope that if you have kids now, or someday you teach them how to skate and carry on this arena. All the other skaters and hockey teams are counting on you as they all know my decision about the arena.
Carry on with your life, Brooke. Never give up! Weather your still in High School, College, University, or living your dream life, don't let me being gone get to you. Keep up your good grades, keep doing good at your job, and most importantly don't give up for love for kstaing and dancing.
Third, I wish I knew roughly what year you would be reading this letter. I don't feel sick right now, so it can't be anytime soon. Just know I love you more than anything Brooke. Your mother and I may fight a lot but we both care about you. I will always love your mother, even if we arwe divorced by the time you get to read this letter. Don't blame her for anything that happened between her and I just because I did. She might of let me down but she is still your mother.
